Pearl. June 2007 - 8th April 2010

Excellent news Donna!

Have you changed the bedding at all? I do think Tika's was the Easi bed I pu her on then a layer of hay! So I got rid of that and now she is not doing the head thing!!

Good luck with the bloods! Do keep us posted, it will be very interesting to see what comes of it. :)

nothink AGAIN!!!

Pearls bloods came back unremarkable! no sign of anything :?

they did put theres a possible indication of her gut slowing down, but all seems fine both ends where food/poops are concerned...

shes lost 70g in a week, my heart sank when he said shed lost weight, he will monitor it as shes back next Wednesday for another checkup

i was given steroid tablets but Lou (doorkeeper) reakons thats more because he doesnt want to admit he has no idea whats up and is giving drugs for the sake of it

very low does but im wary of steroids anyhows after the way they pumped my dad up when he was sick, so im not sure ill be dosing pearl up or not yet :?....

Pearl is really peed off with me right now, she hates the vets so much, so i dont think ill be forgiven for a long long time :cry:

Oh no hun this is a nightmare :(

Lionel is booked for a steroid injection on Thursday and i am really scared, would rather not do it but nothing showed on xrays bloods etc and he has had 3 different courses of anitbiotics and my vet still has no idea what it is either.

Did he mention the possibility of an inhaler type thing? I might ask if its worth trying that first before the steroid.

Lionel has lost a quarter of his body weight in total because of this so i know how you feel hun

Hope she forgives you soon hun and hugs to youxx

They will use the streroid for if there is any inflamation Vinnie had 2 injections it did really help,The vets didnt find out what was wrong with him either,So put it down to a seasonal allergy

Glad they haven't found anything sinister for Pearl but it must be a worry that they haven't found anything either :? I hope you manage to calm her symptoms down, back to normal.

Just 'cos my rabbits have to copy yours Tinks has just started the rapid breathing in the last few days. I've been counting this evening and she's doing a minimum of 80 breaths in 1 minute. She doesn't seem in the least bit distressed and is behaving normally otherwise. I see quite a few of us have rabbits with this ongoing at the moment.

guess its just a waiting game now.....least shes stopped snorting now :D and is lying down instead of sitting up.

animals huh :roll::roll:

i just saw your thread about lionel hun :cry: im sure he wont be given the injection if theres any chance of an infection, thats why the vet waited for Pearls bloods before prescribing steroids.... i hate them tho... my dad looked like a puffer fish on steroids

I just mentioned on another thread is there a possibility of a connection? I just don't get it i have not seen so many cases on here before at once.

I am seriously wondering if it has anything to do with the new excel pellets, i have tried to get Lionel onto A&P but he just leaves them in the bowl even piggy Lolly won't eat them  and as he is loosing weight i don't want to add to that by stopping his pellets. What are you guys feeding?

sorry hun, were on wagg optimum here and have been for a few months.... maybe it really is the weather :?

Mine are on Excel, the symptoms could well co-incide with this. Interestingly, Tinks had sneezing she was treated for in ?January and I was trying her on A&P at that time, I took her off them as she really didn't like them (she was picking the Excel out and leaving the A&P).

i spoke too soon, trying to count pearls breaths and shes just snorted about 8 times in a row.. i know im stressing her :cry::cry::cry::cry:

:cry::cry: That must be hard to watch. I hope she gets relief from that soon.

I just can't get over how rabbits have been viewed as easy child's pets all these years, no way was I expecting them to be so complex and hard to care for.

Both 'joey and bugs' and myself have had similar problems, Smokey (our bun) and Alfie (J&B's bun) ended up on an inhaler. If you find a steroid is helpful, an inhaler is a much better way to introduce it because it directs it straight to the site and has a smaller affect on the overall body. You can also use a bronchiodilator (which I am using on a rat at the moment)
We became obsessed with Smokey's breathing and spent lots of time worrying about, in the end as long as he was happy and eating, we had to be content.
Hope you find out what is wrong with Pearl, how were her bloods, Smokey's eosinophils were raised which could indicate a allergy- so I was told.

no obvious problems.. no allergen at all :? the comment was that shed possibly had a gut slow down but i didnt see any smaller poops or less eating the whole time shes been ill :?

i hope the steroids stop the snorting, i thought they had stopped but after a stressful vets visit shes back to snorting again tonight :(

They have checked she has nothing stuck up her nose, like a piece of hay. Were the x-rays only of her abdomen?

Not again :( :( ! just hoping they get to the bottom of this soon. Lot's of "clear breathing" vibes.

she was ok ish till i put her in the carrier, made her sit in the vets for 1/2hour, got a thorough prodding by the vet, then came home and gave her the syringe medication she was already on without the new stuff too...

now shes stressed, but still eating :D

I would think so, it might be worth asking your vet if she could have something stuck up her nose!

well theres no snot to suggest her body is trying to flush something out... but i have no idea really how a rabbit would cope with stuff up the nose

i will see what he thinks on Wednesday, ill somehow cough/whisper about the rabbit forum, someone told him i had a webcam, i knew he was sniggering as he looked at the comp screen :oops::oops:

obsessed lunatic ran thro his mind i think
