• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

U/D PTS 💔 Advice for 'paralysed' rabbit

My mum has helped me give Scarlett a really good clean today and upon drying her we've noticed a really pink sore patch at the very top of her leg (next to her tail). Honestly makes me want to cry. I'm going to call the vets for advice but for now would a tiny bit of sudocrem be ok do you reckon?

Vets have advised me to use Sudocrem on a rabbit for urine scald.

Boo got a small urine scald patch, just the one and it healed really quickly. I hope your vet had some reassurance for you

Sorry I did not see posts afterwards...I also used a teeny bit of Sudocrem on sore patches as they can lick it off. Sending more vibes for your girls ❤

Hi, thanks for the replies. We've had a bit of a hard day. After getting her so clean and dry last night, I went down to a wet Scarlett this morning. I've had to bathe her again this evening. I've ended up emailing the vet for advice. It's so tough because she's so bright in herself and surroundings but this can't be comfortable for her at all. The vet advised sudocrem and said she thinks it might be time to make a decision on euthanasia. I said I'd give her a week but after tonight I'm thinking of ringing the vets in the morning to book her in this week. Heartbroken. ☹️

Im really sorry :( I know the sores can be difficult, I've had a disabled duck. It really is awful when you can't keep them dry.

Have you tried super absorbent bath mats (can search Amazon)? I more recently started using them for (able bodied) pets.

they're kinda "fluffy" and thick. They seem really absorbent, but obviously I don't know how they'd hold up after a few rabbits have done a few pees on them.

Massive hugs. I'm sure you are aware of the saying "better a day too early than a day too late", I have tried to live by that but there's always something in your head questioning everything when they are bright. .. what if it's a bad patch etc. I "made the decision" several times with Eloise, I even took her to the vets once and the vet assured me that it wasn't time. This was shuffling about though, not urine soaking/scald. I would be in total agreement with you that daily being soaked with urine is untenable. It's hard when every fibre of your being is there to fight for them and protect them. The decision is obviously "soon" if not "now" but if you do decide it is now then you can't be wrong as you are doing it to save her from pain and misery.

Sorry that you have this delicate and heart rending decision to make.

I am in a similar position with my elderly rabbit, Snowflake.

Best of luck.

Thank you. I had a change of heart this morning when she was quite clean and so eager for breakfast. However this evening she was just sat by herself in the litter tray and she was all wet. I'm going to call tomorrow. 😥 Her quality of life isn't great now. 😞

My heart goes out to you. I'm so sorry its Scarlet's time. She will be in my thoughts at 6pm this evening xx

Aww, it was nice her friends could support Scarlet and you as she passed peacefully.
I am so sorry for your loss yet know it was best for her.
Binky free!

That sounds like the best way to go - calmly and with all her friends. I hope this is at least some comfort for you. Xx
