Lying breeders U/D post 31

Dealing with the free ads on here I have come across breeders lies so many times.

We were going to collect a female bunny from someone who's friend had suddenly been taken into hospital and couldn;t look after their bunny any more. When we made firm arrangements she then text us with a list of other bunnies we might like, so I googled her mobile number and found she was advertising baby rabbits and ex breeding stock everywhere including the bun we were taking.

After much thought we walked away from the situation as we did not want to help a breeder in any way.

I take a lot of sob stories on the free ads with a pinch of salt now adays

I just don't look on these sites, but then I'm not in the position of another bunny being an option just yet.

I wasn't expecting to be keeping my foster it was a bit of a last minute thing so now he needs a friend, was just keeping my eyes open - and have they been opened

If he's being given away for free from a breeder I'd worry that he has some kind of health problem. I think if you did get him you'd need to keep him well away from your bunny for a good while and get him neutered in that time. Surely at 2 he should still be able to breed?:?

could just be retired or not suitable for showing or breeding or could be giving up that breed or colour it doesnt mean something is wrong with it lots of people rehome their retired bunnies or the ones they no longer need
i dont personally unless a friend wants one genually my retired bunnies stay with me but some people do
just found the add omg he is a stunning boy

And that is another reason why I detest the 'breeding' process aswell, how you can just dispose of an animal when it's past it's 'useful stage' is beyond me - (not you personally but, you know what I mean) are some of these breeders mechanical robots with no feelings at all, I mean I looked after my first doe for a month for some friends and was devastated at the thought of having to part with her I got very attached - 2 years and they just give them away for free as if they are nothing at all! Thats some kind gesture for his services rendered and what a potentially awful retirement if he gets taken by someone who feeds him to a snake - yes 'some' of these breeders are fabulous aren't they:roll: ETA there is nothing you can do, the only option you'd have is to attempt to return the rabbit which most people wouldn't be able to stomach doing.

i think you should maybe go with your heart. it is so frustrating though that sometimes people do lie just to get rid of sick or uwanted animal. i have been to 2 rescues recently for the first time in my life. one of them i was impressed with but the other one confused me because the rescue person showed rabbits as a hobby ( also saw a few babies from her rabbits) and some of the rescue rabbits were the same breed. are the rescue rabbits surplus to requirements? i was a bit upset when i left. i fell in love with some of them ( as you do) but kept thinking of u/lying health problems:(

When I maintained the guinea pig admissions for ARC I repeatedly had this problem. Would get phone calls with people usually with a few young single boys usually slightly different ages, they would usually give some sob story about getting them from a pet shop and had been missexed and there was always another story why they could not keep the boys.

After someone contacted me for the second time I always started googling phone number as often found that breeders would try and off load all aged boy on the us. Once I realised what was going on I never took any more as all I was doing was freeing up more space for her to breed more.

it really is difficult isnt it! if you say you already have a boy they may not bond anyway and then you have two rabbits who have to be kept apart, at least if you go to a rescue they may bond them for you first.
