• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes for Rodney

I'm sorry I've been gone a really long time!

Rodney has just been admitted for intensive care for bloat with a low temp and very sore stomach. His blood sugar was good but they're going to do x-rays to double check for obstruction.

My poor boy 😭 I'm absolutely convinced we're going to lose him today.

Poor Rodney  Poor you too, I can imagine how anxious you must be feeling. If I remember correctly though, I think you have confidence in your vets, so hopefully they can pull him through.

How's Blossom?

Sending him loads of vibes.

Blossom was walking all over him which more than anything convinced me we may lose him 😭 but she's fine in herself. She's had to come home with us as she has a reputation at the vets for IV destruction bless her.

I do have confidence in them although they have lost their rabbit savvy vet and rwaf gold status but at least the nurses are still very rabbit experienced and I know they adore Rodney from his previous stays.

He was just so quiet, he let me hold him to try and warm him up and normally he'd have mauled me and he just sat there snuggled in.

Really sorry to hear this, sending a million vibes for Rodney, I hope the vets can help him pull through.

He's staying overnight, unfortunately his cecum is full of gas. Although his bloods are good there was some hazing on the x-ray that could be a cancer which we'll have to investigate when he's stable.

He's warmer now and the vet said she's seen some tiny improvement with medical management as he's been 'slightly cheeky' which sounds like our boy.

Glad there's some positive news, and he's being a bit cheeky. Sending more vibes for your boy x

Slightly cheeky always sounds more reassuring and I hope he'll be feeling much better by morning. I'm sorry that there's an unresolved issue re hazing on the x-ray, although I would feel more hopeful as his bloods are normal.

Not heard anything yet this morning. I'm expecting they're busy but I'm desperate for news but also really dreading bad news.

Blossom is quiet now, and has a weepy eye that Rodney must have been cleaning it for her 😭

It's horrid waiting isn't it. I hope you get some positive news soon and he can come home, not least to attend to Blossom's eye.

Apparently there is poop!! And some small eating, the vet thinks we're not out of danger yet as he's uncomfortable being palpated in one area.

They're going to take him off the sleepy painkillers (b something?) and up his metacam to compensate in the hopes he'll get up and about a bit more to help with motility.

If that works and his pain is managed then we can have him home and nurse him here, if not I may ask if we can add another painkiller like paracetamol for him that we can give him as she said they're really busy and noisy at the moment.

On other news Blossom deigned me suitable to clean her eye, with a warm cotton pad which has made it less gunky but growled at me the whole time!

Poop is good, and a little eating too ☺️really hope that you can have him home soon, to a bit of peace and quiet. Growly Blossom 🙄

It's great that he's showing improvement. I would want him home soon too, but the sensible part of my brain would be pleased that they are being thorough.

He's home! Really not his usual self but moving around and went straight to the water bowl for a drink. He has flopped straight down in front of it but I'm hoping that he's just relieved to be home.

He's got loxicom and emiprid and we'll review him again later once he's had that and more top up syringe food.

I'm pleased he's home. Don't forget he will probably still have some Buprenorphine in his system, so won't be overly energetic.

I'm sorry to read Rodney has been so poorly. Its such a worry when they are kept in hospital & you just want them home, forgetting the worry doesn't end there. I'm really pleased he's progressed this far, continued vibes for his recovery

Blossom makes me giggle
