• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Rupert seems to have something stuck in his nose

We've made the decision to let him go. Apparently he is more stable sitting in his oxygen tent but we don't feel that taking him to a specialist will be worthwhile as we don't want to put him through too much treatment. Will be taking Lilac down to see him later on to say goodbye. At least this way he can go peacefully on his own terms.

Sending loads of hugs. There never was a right or wrong decision here. But I know I would have made the same decision as you for all the reasons you've given.

Thank you. In a way it's "nice" to have the space to be able to think and not have to make the decision then and there. It's always a sad decision and none of us want to make it but it's best for him at this current point. He's never been 100% since having his eye out earlier in the year, with circling a lot and now this, so I think enough is enough.

That's really understandable that you've reached the decision that enough is enough, and I'm glad you had the time to think and not rush into anything. Poor Rupert has been through so much.

Thanks all, he went peacefully and I am glad we chose to do it this way. Lilac got to have a cuddle with him, as soon as he passed she lay down by his side ❤️

Aw bless him. Glad that he had Lilac to be with at the end.

Sorry for your loss. As others have said I can see why you made the decision that you did. RIP Rupert.

Thanks all, I really appreciate the support of everyone on RU. Now to deal with trying to keep a single bun happy 😔

I am so sorry you had to let him go, yet am sure it was best for him even though it broke your heart to say goodbye. It is lovely that Lilac got to say goodbye and give him a final cuddle. Sending gentle hugs to you and Lilac as you process the loss of your beloved Rupert.😭

I'm so very sorry that you had to let him go. It's never a comfortable decision but when you feel it's best for them, it can sometimes take some of the sting out of it. I hope you and Lilac can comfort one another at this sad time. 😥
(((((((Huge hugs)))))))

Sleep peacefully, Rupert. xxxxx

How good that Lilac was there with him to give him a last cuddle. I am so very sorry for your loss of dear Rupert, though. Sending you hugs, and I hope Lilac will be okay. Sweet dreams, Rupert. ❤️
