I have been trying to find if there is a link between dry sneezing and heart problems, I found some old threads with possible mention of a link but I couldn't find an exact answer or reason.
Shadow was diagnosed with rounded heart and fluid on the lungs in November 2024. He had been doing well since with his heart pills and dieuretic. A couple of months back he had a heart episode of some sort where he lay down and did body jerks for about a minute, closing his eyes tight, before getting up and being fine again. The vet checked him and upped his heart medication and said she can now hear a murmur which wasn't there in November so he has got a bit worse. He has had a few more of these episodes but it's not regular. The poor thing had also had weepy eyes which has now cleared up and had a recent ear infection which has also now cleared up. He had another of his episodes last sunday, we just have to keep him calm after it, they don't last long luckily. He then had a bit of sneezing monday morning before refusing to eat and being rushed to the vets. He was cold and going into shock. Luckily with injections, syringe feed and medicine he bounced back quickly and was fine again a few hours later as if nothing happened. He stayed on the medicine a few days anyway and seems fine now.
The very first time he had the heart episode he had a sort of sneezing fit about 5 minutes after. The next time he had an episode I looked back on the pet cam and could see he had a sneezing fit about an hour beforehand. I will mention here that sneezing is very unusual for him. My vet said it isn't somthing usually linked to heart problems but interesting it happened the same time so she wanted me to keep an eye on it. I haven't witnessed any other actual sneezing fits (this was like 5 or 10 sneezes in a row). But the last month he has been doing the odd dry sneeze once or twice a day. At first I thought it was because he was having a molt but he doesn't normally sneeze from it. But it's continued. My vet has checked him and thinks he is ok, she said there's a possibility it could be the start of an upper respiratory infection or just allergies/dry air/dust etc as he is inddor. She suggested neubilzing him. Unfortunately he got freaked out by the sound of it (even though it was a kids ultra quiet one!) so we haven't tried that again. When he was at the vets a couple of days ago I asked about taking a swab but the vet said as there is no discharge it wouldn't show up anything so she gave me a swab to take home if I see any discharge.
Anyway I am convinced it is related to his heart in some way as he is 6/7 years old and we've had him 5 years, in all those years he has not been a sneezy bunny at all up until a couple of months ago. I don't remember him ever really sneezing before. Nothing in the home environment has changed. The sneeezes are dry and mostly seem to come from the back end first if that makes sense, like a couple of times I have watched him laying down and his back part jerks first then he sneezes. Other times it's more a normal sneeze. The other day there were 2 weird times where it was a bit of a jerk like a sneeze but not with the sound, more like his head just moved as if he was sneezing. These sneezes happen every day but on average just once or twice in the day, sometimes a bit more.
Any advice or ideas would be appreciated
