• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Noticed a little balding near the norner of my bunnys eye.

Burt is a 5 year old French Lop who I've recently noticed as a balding patch appearing by his eyes. He has had quite watery eyes recently aswell. The right side isn't as bad but looks to be going this way, just wondering if anyone else experienced it and had any advise. Will be booking a vets appointment aswell.1000020351.jpg

Watery eyes, AKA ‘Dacryocystitis’ can have many causes, one common one is dental problems involving tooth root elongation.

A Vet check is needed to establish the cause of the watery eyes and to treat it. As well as treating any sore skin and/or active infection.

Until you see a Vet, which needs to be ASAP, you can gently bathe the eyes with a weak solution of chamomile tea. Applying a tiny amount of Vaseline to the skin where fur is missing can act as a barrier to protect the skin from the tears. Also be vigilant about flystrike. Rabbits with chronic runny eyes can attract blow flys

I agree with Inspector Morse but sometimes they get a bit bald during a moult around their eyes. Does Bunny eat a good lot of Hay? Is his fur damp around underhis eye?
