Bonding Pip to her new friend

I had similar when I bonded my last pair. Frosty had been everywhere! I picked the room he had been in the least and didn’t allow him access to it for a few weeks before bonding if I can recall. I steam cleaned and sprayed vinegar and water mixed 50/50 in the area the bonding pen would be. I think if you can do similar and then try in the new year fingers crossed it will be fine.
Yeah we did that with the kitchen, which was our initial space. She'd only been in there 2-3 times in 6 years, but its not got a door and and I wonder if that caused issues because she could smell her home? I don't know but it certainly didn't work in there at all. Which is why we tried the lounge in a patch that we cleaned with vinegar etc. She was much better, she ate, slept and her breathing was better. But really I think so was just tolerating her time in there until she could go back home to her castle. Haha. She is incredibly smart!

The rescue have said they can try to bond them for us, but we obviously have to wait for a space in their schedule.
So we have rotated Bumble's pen alongside hers, so now they share 4 panels rather than 1. This has doubled his space and he is over the moon with it. He's been doing lots of exploring and binkies and Pip is hopping around watching him. I did wonder if he was a bit jealous of Pip having lots more space than him before, he always seemed a bit bored in his pen, but that may have been me overthinking it.
At least we both feel happier now he has more space, we would prefer them to be together. But we will get there one step at a time.

That sounds like a good plan, and nice that Bumble has more space to binky about in. Hopefully the rescue will be able to help out, in the meantime enjoy a break from it, the bunnies will be fine, and you can get your breath back 😊

Thank you. He's had a lovely time so far and now flopped on top of his house next to the radiator. Lol. His first experience of a radiator and I think he likes it. I can focus on enjoying getting to know him and Pip still gets some enrichment from having a bunny nearby. 🐰

I slept on the sofa last night because Bumble was a tad rambunctious. 🤣. I was a little bit concerned he was going to try to get into Pip's pen.
He chewed a massive hole in his straw house, we had lots of binkies, running and exploring.
As I went to put him to bed and cover the top of his pen with our duvet cover. I noticed he had turned one corner into Swiss cheese. 🤦‍♀️. Not sure when he did that, but I've tried to make it so he can't reach it now. He's obviously a chewer we've never had that before. 🙄.

Then I turned the lights off they both went quiet. 🤣. I woke up a few times to hear hay munching, but nothing else. In the early hours of the morning I heard more grass house destruction.
But at least he's found something to keep him entertained and it's good fibre. Lol.

They will be fine side by side. They are both inbetter situations than they were before you adopted Bumble.
Thanks bunnymomma that's what I'm starting to realise now I've calmed myself down. They are living a life of luxury and seem very happy.
Pip is eating so much hay Now, and is definitely brighter Her poops are gorgeous and big and brown. 🥰. They haven't looked like that for along time.

I love the sound of night time hay eating. Happy memories of bonding Snowflake and Dusty (rip).
Yes it's our favourite sound to relax to. I slept on the sofa again and enjoyed the soft chewing sound to send me off to sleep.

They have both been chilling in their pens, they have each done a territorial wee in the adjoining corners of their pens. Oops. But otherwise they've settled next to each other. Pip is currently washing herself by the radiator and Bumble is sat on his comfy blanket looking inquisitive. It's nice that he's learning that soft things are nice and not to be destroyed. Lol. Well sometimes anyway.

Chinook likes to nibble soft things - all bunny bedding now looks moth eaten but she's stayed off chewing the carpet & sofa so I'll let her off. So are Bumble & Pip's pens close but not touching?

I'm glad she's not chewed the sofa or carpet. Eek.
My friend popped round and i introduced her to Bumble i then noticed he's savaged his blanket whilst I've been upstairs. 🤣 whoops.
Yeah their pens run along side each other but there's a gap of 2-3inches between them, so they can't swipe at each other or bite through. Bumble has a blanket over the top of his area so he can't jump out into hers. Here's a photo of their set up before I covered the top of his.
We made Pips slightly bigger, cos we felt so bad about her having a smaller space than normal. Lol. However she really doesn't seem that bothered as long as she gets her treats and radiator.

aww nice & cosy. You know they might get more tolerant of each other just living side by side. When I was trying to quad bond they lived either side of the lounge (using a pen to divide the room. After living like that they were MUCH calmer when the time came to try again. At first we had chicken wire as they were fighty at the prison gates. As time passed there was no aggression. I remember us saying it was time to take down the chicken wire & my boys ran to the one spot where there was chicken wire to box each other🤣 I think they try to look all hard but fail miserably most times

Yes I hope so. I think I might have rushed Bumble a bit too much in my excitement. I think it was too big a change for him coming indoors and dealing with us humans and all our noise and then sassy Pip as well. I'm glad it helped with your 4, but also proving my point that they can understand us. I can just imagine them boxing. They are way cleverer than we think. Lol.
The first night in this set up they were both doing lots of investigations into how to get into the other pen. Bumble kept trying to chew his way in and they were interacting through the pens. Now they are back to not giving a care in the world and sleeping most of the time.

Glad they are settled & happy

I'm missing updating you all, but i don't have much to tell you.

Bumble has chewed himself a viewing area in his house, so he can spy on Pip, when she's chilling by the radiator. I got inside his pen to take this photo thinking he might be lonely, he wasnt sure about a big hoom, so I gave him some dandelion root and then left him in peace.

Pip spends her time chilling near the radiator or on top of her castle looking down on her world.

They both spend a few mins a day trying to chew into the others cage, but otherwise they ignore one another. Bumble does like to stretch up meerkat style to see if he can launch himself into her pen, so we leave him covered over unless we are sat next to him.

My little monkeys decided to be rascals on Friday night. I was sat on the sofa and they both suddenly decided they wanted to play chase. So I had about 15mins of them charging up.and down the fence line between their pens whilst grunting at each other. 🤣.
I have no idea what set them off, but they don't seen to have done it since. Weird becuase they haven't done that since October when I first brought him home. 🤪. I tried to work out who was the troublemaker but couldn't.
Other than that, Bumble will now accept a stroke if he is eating something tasty. So that's progress and he has destroyed our rug it's very holey so that's 3 rugs that's he has added ventilation too, or and our duvet cover. Good job he's a cutie pie.

I am sorry about your rugs and duvet. I hope Bumble is not eating the rug.
My bunnies take turns stomping when they hear certain noises.

Hopefully you'll have some home furnishings left once he has grown outt of his chewy phase. You can still update - its always nice to get bunny updates & in my opinion, we get too few ON RU generally.

I wonder what set them off...law unto themselves are bunnies
