Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Vibes for Boobly Bear please

I'm so sorry for your loss, I offer you my condolences I also send out a lot of vibes for Boo ☹️xxx

Gosh, poor Boo and her sore mouth. I so hope the sore area isn't because of an abscess or kidney failure. :( Could Ruth see no spurs, then? I wonder why she drools but then stops again. How lovely of Eddy to come along to support Boo. I'm glad they got settled and Boo enjoyed some strawberries. ❤️ I'm glad the taxi driver was so nice, too. That must've helped when you were so stressed going to the vets. How rude of that supervisor, though. "Just a rabbit", hmpf. Taking the day off to take a beloved animal friend to the vet seems completely normal to me, and they've got nothing to complain about when this has only been the second time you've taken time off. I really hope Ruth can help Boo and figure out what's going on, and that they'll come home again soon. I know how empty it feels at home when the bunnies are at the vets. :( Sending so, so many more vibes for Boo. ❤️

Thank You everyone - your support means alot. she is doing well this morning, still eating "with gusto" & no dribbling. Chatted with Ruth & agreed to still put her under GA to have a decent look. The sore spot could be a spur behind last molar. Hoping it was just trapped food.
The July episode of drooling had a known cause - in my inebriated state I forgot to mention that. It came on straight after I'd given her a rosehip. Felt terrible & chucked the rest away...it did take 2 or 3 days til she was right again.

I will get an update on finding v soon. Usually I don't until she's come round . However I intend to set off soon-ish so can use public transport (buses & trains) then I'll hang round Harrogate til I can get her & get taxi back

Yeah I should have called in sick rather than been honest & I should have learnt that lesson years ago.

I am sorry BB has had to go to the dentist and hope she will recover well. No, I think you did the right thing being honest!

That's really good news, just catching up with your posts now. Hope you are all back safe at home soon xx

We're home! Spent more on transport than the vet bill 🤣 Todays taxi was on meter, which together with the driver running out of fuel made for a stressful journey. Not for Boo though, she lay on my lap again.

So when she was 5 Boo had loads & loads of dentals - first at another vet & then referred ourselves back to Crab Lane as it was going nowhere. Frances actually came out of retirement to work alongside Heather with a plan to operate to find what was going on with a socket that was always discharging pus & antibiotics didn't touch it. The op would have been a big one & at the last minute Heather & Frances cancelled, based on Boo's superior coping skills. We were told to do specific massages / strokes along her nose. Months later she had this huge rotten tooth removed from the cavity. After that she only needed 1-2 more dentals. During all this time Boo used to eat normally (apart from once when spurs cut her tongue. She had the weirdest symptoms - basically she'd stop drinking water & would get on Bob's pillow in the early hours & groom his head ❤️🤣

Fast forward to last week. On Thursday when I was trying to get ready for work & Boo was being super fussy, sitting on my feet & grooming my ankles. I remember telling Bob & being super happy to find her looking well when I got back from work. Forgot about it, then saturday night she starts dribbling, not drinking & not eating hard foods.

Under anaesthetic Ruth found a "crater (for want of a better expression) in her gum where that manky tooth was. Looked inflamed & sore though less so than yesterday. Ruth thinks she'd had food trapped in it but believes it made its own way out, hence the big reduction in drooling. She cleaned out the cavity, rasped one tooth & gave long acting antibiotic injection. There was no evidence of anything sinister though she didn't have any diagnostics. So I'm happy! it all makes sense & it was nice to have her checked properly in case she'd cracked a tooth or something..

I got the feeling Ruth developed a little soft spot for Boo during her stay & the VN thought she was wonderful

Both buns look happy to be home :) & have had supper

It always makes me smile to read a good update. I am glad it was nothing too serious, though ga must have been so scary. You must be so relieved to have them back home.

I certainly am. How's your Heidi doing BM? and little shiny boy Raven?

I'm so glad Boo is okay and home and that it wasn't anything more serious. 🥰 She's got quite a history with dental stuff! She's such a funny bunny, grooming Bob's head when she needed a dental. I hope the antibiotic will take care of any remaining irritation in the tooth socket and that she'll get back to her hay soon. Also, who wouldn't develop a soft spot for lovely Boo. ❤️

Thanks reader. Yes the grooming Bob's head was a weird one. It took a while before our vets believed us I think. What a clever rabbit. As the main care giver I used to get jealous Bob got the groomies ....maybe she knows I can't drive 🤣

I know right! You'd think anyone who met Boo would fall instantly in love with her...but it did seem to take the overnight stay to cement their bond

That's wonderful news, well done Boobly ☺️ and your vet sounds fantastic too. Boo is a clever girl, and has obviously worked out her own little way of communicating with you, when things go wrong. I hope she stays well and happy now, and I think Eddy deserves a special mention for his supporting role today, treats all round 😅

So glad to hear the Boo will now be on the mend. Clever girl, letting you know when she needs help with her health, instead of hiding it like most bunnies do! 👍❤️🥰

Excellent news. Well done Boo ❤️ Funnily enough I was thinking yesterday about when the manky tooth was removed. You'll have to get her a small bunny toothbrush

I also think that Eddy should get a special gold star for his chief supporter role.

I hope that Boo will make a good recovery now and that her sore gum/infected socket will resolve with the abx treatment x

aww thanks everyone. It was already looking less sore today compared to at consult and no active infection. The bigger risk I guess is it happening again, although the recess in her gum she'll have been living with for about 4 years
