• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Unlucky Casper

Dental spurs can be brutal on soft tissue. Was he on Metacam before this issue? It should heal well now that spur is gone. Has he gotten better taking syringe feeds?
I hope his spur will not return anytime soon. Though if it does at least you know he tolerated the ga well.

I think Casper has been on metacam for many years, when his tooth root elongation was diagnosed. He's had a fair few dentals for spurs with variable recovery rates but he is obviously a brave wee soldier who has exceptional vet care & the best home life

Sorry reader:lol: I seem better able to recall details of Caspers life over my own:lol:

That's really good news, hope his little mouth heals up quickly and he can get back to normal nomming. Sending lots more vibes for him xx
It is! Thank you for the vibes, Pets mum.

Thats about as good an outcome as you could get really. I am happy youve no new things to be worried about. Glad his munching has increased too. Well done Casper:love:
Isn't it? I was especially worried about his tooth roots possibly having gotten worse, so I'm very pleased that they're okay for now. Thank you.

J&B is completely right! He's been on Metacam for a long time now, because of his tooth roots. He's actually pretty good at taking the syringe feeds, but it just stressed him out a lot, poor boy. Thank you for hoping his spur won't return anytime soon. You're right that there's at least the reassurance of him being okay with the GA if it does, so that's good to know. It's been, amazingly, over a year this time since his last dental, so hopefully he'll be fine for a long time again.

J&B, I'm really impressed that you've remembered so much.

I have an insanely good memory with things that interest me & are simple enough to understand  Particularly conversations. I freak colleagues out at work by remembering little things they told me etc. Its unintentional. Overall my memory isn't that good owing to lack of interest or stupidity

Is Casper still doing good?

That sounds really handy! Better than having a really good memory with things that don't interest you. I have a good memory for conversations, too, so I know the freaked out reactions to 'Oh, yes, I remember you saying this thing 10 years ago'.

Yeah, he's good, thank you for asking. He's been eating really well today!

Good for you!
I remember the incident, yet forget who told me!

Reader, I am glad Casper is more active.
