Did you read my earlier post? I already apologised if the word 'disappointed' offended anyone and said I felt saddened by the thought of the death penalty.

It wasn't aimed at you, you retracted/rephrased your point :D but others had agreed with you and stood by their point

And I wasn't laughing at you, I was laughing at Vicki's tongue in cheek comment - she was berated for being condescending for quoting a definition, so she quoted the definition of condescending. I just found that amusing :D

:lol: So did I - Initially I was trying to show how the term disappointed can be deemed condescending then I was trying to show that by posting the definition it wasn't condescending - oh never mind

lol, there's a word I found difficult to explain what it meant to the kids I teach, so I looked it up in the dictionary, the definition was another word I couldn't explain, so I looked that up, and the definition for that included the first word!!:lol:

Ah, I understand, it was aimed at Sarah and myself. Very friendly.

there really is no point in anyone getting upset on a personal level, it's only a debate and not personal.

Well, yeah, quite. That was exactly what I was trying to say when people got all up in arms about the word 'disappointed' being used. It's just a word used by one person about a concept, and if it affects your belief in yourself and your opinions that deeply, then you are taking it far too personally.

I think there is nothing more to add really, time to disappear so things don't get personal.

When they challenged your choice of wording though it wasn't supposed to upset you it was because it was felt that by you being disappointed - you were making it personal I think. Anyway least said soonest mended I think. The majority on here agree that the death penalty shouldn't be used, it differs to my own beliefs and maybe if it were put to the national vote the figures may be different, I guess we may never know.

i would be interested though...

I was really sorry to hear what happened to you, honestly that must have been dreadful but, you can't let them overshadow the rest of your life, chances are it wasn't personal at all as such they are just :censored: who couldn't care less about anyone else, bit of luck they were junkies who have killed themselves with an overdose ;)

i try not too honest i do... some days tho i hear a bang or a cat jumps up on a fence and im terrified all over again :oops::oops:

my amazing brain has pretty much blocked it all out too... just little things come back now and them and tbh im more angry at me for allowing them to take my life how they have :evil: they clearly cant help themselves for what they do

i already have my dream outcome tho... oneday they pick the wrong house... a bigger scummer than them and they get machettied (sp) to death... not totally unrealistic in brum neither and more likely than a lawful punishment ;)

What goes round comes around I think, so you never know ! Either way they have probably long forgotten you and are getting on with their lives, I can imagine how difficult it must be because it is frightening but, coming from an eternal pessimist, we can waste a lot of time thinking of things that might never happen and whilst you can't erase it, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger I think xx

haha in that case im as strong as superman on steroids ;):lol:

It's not about people not having the same opinion as me. I feel sad that in a supposedly civilised society, and in this day and age, people feel that in certain circumstances it's acceptable to kill another human being.

I agree with you. I genuinely think there is a right and wrong in this arguement, no grey areas, and the death penalty will always be wrong, no matter how long someone wants to spend argueing for it. I will not apologise for this view as I truly believe the 'against' group are in the right here. It's not about being condescending or morally superior, it's about sticking by your view on a very serious issue.

yes those three who entered my home through a bedroom window, held us hostage for almost an hour while they ransacked my house and then threatened to to come back who then drove off in our car... yes im very serious i want them dead.

im scared to leave my house, im scared to come back to my house and i cant afford to move... how many people do you think they have done that to, i guess they would use **** childhood as a defense to..

i want them DEAD
 Unfortunately it's this type of mentality that undermines some of the better arguements. I feel terribly sorry for what happened to you but even the pro group I would hope disagree regarding the death penalty here.

Why do you always have to make things personal?! It's donna's type of mentality that undermines some of the better arguments, like shes in the wrong for feeling the way she does

- you were making it personal I think.

I didn't use the word 'disappointed'. I wasn't making anything personal. I tried to explain what I believed Rosie Rabbit's reasoning was, and I even tried to be objective by saying that people could feel disappointment from the alternative perspective.

I think you made it personal, presuming that it was a slur on your comments, when in actual fact she was referring to the poll. She wasn't disappointed with YOU AS INDIVIDUALS, she was disappointed that in a poll more people weren't anti death penalty. So what. Talk about making a meal out of one word, that was not designed to cause offence. If you have strength of conviction about your stance then why should it even matter if one person feels disappointment/sadness.

Me make things personal?! 'This type of mentality' is not personal, 'Why do you always have to make things personal?' is. Please thing before you type. I am not criticising the way she feels, I would probably feel the same, but it is the mentality of revenge and retribution that comes natural to human beings that will stop it ever coming back.

What do you think should happen to the people that did that to Donna then?
