Bunny's Room

Young Bun
Hi, Ive just joined the forum, wanted to share where Murphy, my bun lives. I live in an apartment so Murphy is a house rabbit, I dont have a "hutch" for him, so what I did was use a two-tier coffee table, line it with paper/rabbit pee pads, then Ive put a towel over that and then a fleece on top. There a ramp going up, and a little towel that I thought would be good for both privacy and a little "cat flap" thing where he could peek in and out. Finally, I folded up a clean pillowcase at the far end. I know it sounds a weird place for him to sleep, but once I got him home and after he explored, he seems to love laying about in there! The only plug points in the room are on the far side of the bed, with an ikea unit pushed right in front of them. I do have a lamp, a radio on top of the unit so I need to think of a plan to hide/cover those wires when he gets big enough to jump on the bed and is able to get to them. I did think of wrapping the top of the wire with something like a water bottle then putting a strong tape, like heavy duty gorilla tape over the bottle but i guess he'd probably just chew through that!bun9.jpg

Welcome to the forum :D Thank you so much for sharing these photos, including on your previous thread. Murphy is gorgeously cute ❤️ Feel free to ask any questions you may have. Good to see that Murphy has lots of hay. Hay is very important in a rabbit's diet. These two websites are also very useful and informative.

Thanks for the link. I'll go check it out. When I got him, he was eating meadow hay, and I was given a bag of changeover hay, but over the past day or so, I'm starting to slowly switch him over to my choice of hay (Alfalfa) as I heard it was good for growing Buns. When he's around six months old I'll be introducing Timothy Hay and slowly phasing the alfalfa out.
Im doing the same with his pellets... 100% of the pellets he was used to, then Im slowly introducing 25% of the pellets of my choice (Ive opted for science selective junior), so the transition from the pellets / hay he was given before I got him goes as smoothly as possible... dont want to upset his tum! I bought this the other day, to help make the switch from hay and pellets more interesting :)

I'll have had him for exactly one week tomorrow but I think he's settled in great, we watched Watership Down last night -

he turned away at any scary parts though

Welcome to the forum. Its good to see Murphy enjoying lots of space ❤️
Thank you, and yes I want him to have as much space as possible. I live on my own and no stranger to picking up pee and poop as I used to have guinea pigs and they had a 5 foot C+C cage attached with a ramp to a four foot cage. Still getting used to handling a rabbit as Im used to holding piggies. One of the major differences between having piggies and now a bunny Ive found in this short space of time is that he is using the litter tray so well.... I was so used to guinea pigs pooping absolutely all over the place, used to have to clean both their cages twice a week. Got up this morning and apart from a few random poops across the room, most of it was in the litter tray so that was the only thing i needed to clean. Im changing the litter tray every day as i dont have a hay rack yet and dont want him grazing in hay that he's pooped in , so attached this for time being... just a tub attached to the side of the tray. I will invest in proper hay rack though, because when he's bigger, space in the litter tray will become smaller

I've spotted a few power cables in the pics - I would definitely move them out of his reach before he chews through them, including the ones on the table. They do seem to attract bunny teeth. You can also get cable guards, which makes it a bit harder to chew through them.

Just wondering where you got the litter tray from - I've not seen one like that before. It's also useful for those with older / less agile rabbits as it's got the lower side entry.

Hi, that room is my living room and is out of bounds for free roam, he only comes in here on my lap to watch tv with me every night... he's never on the floor in that room. I am thinking of trying to bunny proof the entire apartment, but at the moment he only has his own room (plugs and wires are behind an ikea unit) and he has the hallway - no wires - and he has the guest bathroom to extend his run - no wires. Would love for him to be in my open plan living/kitchen, and that is the plan eventually. To be honest, it would be nice to get a few junction boxes to tidy up the wires even if i didnt have a rabbit, would make my living area a damn sight tidier !
