• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny not hopping

Jini

New Kit
I took in a 2 yr old bunny, who was confined in a small hutch until now.
She has been actively running in the very wide open yard for the last week, but a few hours ago I noticed that she started dragging her rear. She does sit upright, but does not hop. She tried jumping up once, but fell down
She did come to me with a very filthy rear and had an upset tummy. That I cleaned and the tum was sorted, She was eating fine during the day.
She has never run around before. Did she perhaps overexert herself?
I have another bunny, but he is fine

You need to get her examined by a vet to determine what is wrong. She may be injured and in pain, or there could be something else wrong.
Is she still eating as normal?

She was eating at the time of the post, I have not seen her eating now, as I just woke.
Is there an aid to assist with finance? I can't afford a vet at the present moment.

If you are on certain benefits in the UK, you may be able to register at a charity vet (Blue Cross, etc). Check online, as it keeps changing.
You do have a duty of care to prevent suffering and get appropriate treatment, so if you can't use a charity vet or eg a credit card, then you could try to negotiate a payment plan with the vet of your choice.

Did vet give you anything for inflammation or discomfort? Other meds? Has there been any important in her mobility?
Sending more vibes she can improve with treatment and supportive care.

Thank you for checking in. Yes, vet gave her shots and some meds to take daily.
Last night I noticed that she started "ruffling" her pelt if I rub her rear, which she did not do, later I noticed she started kicking out one leg. This morning, during the cleaning I stretched out that leg , gently moving it to help ease some stiffness and noticed a good bit of resistance, the other foot, some toes was flexed. She also moved about a bit and instead of pulling, she actually raised her rear on that one leg that has been giving some resistance, and push forward. So I will keep monitoring and hope for the best

It sounds like she is making a tiny amount of improvement. You are right that some physical therapy will be necessary to keep mobility in her joints and strength. Do you have a recheck scheduled with the vet?
Also, if you can, take photos/videos of her changes for the vet and to better assess her situation.
Sending more positive vibes.
