  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Another vet visit - more bad news

Yesterday I visited the vets because Woody seemed slightly different. Generally slower, not much enthusiasm, potentially in pain.

His last dental was only on 21st July. Woody usually has dentals every 4 weeks without fail but yesterday only made it 3. The vet said that the spurs looked particularly bad and painful but that she was also worried something else might be going on. His usually beautiful fur coat seems to have lost its life, also, the fact that it is quicker than usual has led my vet to think that maybe something else is causing him trouble.

His hocks are also very sore so she advised me on how to help them.

She took bloods and I am waiting for the results before he can have his dental.

Hoping and praying they don't find anything else :(

That's good news :) maybe he just hasn't had much to drink today? Is that how it works?? Anyway hope he perks up :thumb:

Yeah - do you go there too?

Well I saw you were in Bristol and as highcroft have pretty much taken over I guessed you prob would have used them. I used to go to Lucas vets until highcroft took them over too  I read in the bunny mag that highcroft in Whitchurch is a rabbit specialist place? :D

Sorry to butt in! Highcroft whitchurch has 3 exotics vets, polly,Jemma and vim :thumb: polly is my favourite. I did wonder how highcroft had such a monopoly around here unti someone told me they just bought everyone else out!! But I the we are going to switch al the animals except the buns over the The Vet on hengrove way as its so much cheaper!

Is that the new one opposite frankie and bennys?? It's cheaper is it?? :thumb:

I'm not keen on highcroft had many bad experiences with them  don't get me wrong they know what they are talking about and seem to care and do look after the animals but they are also a business and have "sold" or tried to sell many unnecessary procedures  do you have to have a bit of common sense with them and sometimes a second opinion

Exactly this! I think they are rude as well and try to get you in and out as quickly as possible! They always pressure me into spending money i dont need to and make me feel like a bad owner if i don't :( I do like polly a lot though.

I'm not sure if it's opposite frankie and bunny's, I think yes? It's much cheaper and they seem really nice, they gave me a tour all round when I went in. For an idea on price differences I was quoted £180 to have my dog neutered at highcroft, at £94 at The Vet!

I previously went to Lucas but had an awful experience there with my dog. Now I go to Highcroft in Whitchurch and visit either Polly or Jemma.

They are both fantastic and I would always recommend them - they have both got to know Woody very well and I like to think they are quite fond of him :thumb:
