  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Opinion on Mouth Ulcer / Kidney Failure

Barney update: he's now eating hay and veg well but refuses pellets. His faecal output is returning to normal. They even took him outside and let him eat grass for 30 minutes. As a house rabbit this will have been novel for him.

So it's promising. I've had it before where my two go off a particular type of pellets when ill, maybe associating them with pain. I've dropped off two different flavours today as this has worked before.

Thanks for the vibes and advice everyone gave, it was very useful when I was stressing my head off.

Barney is back home.
He still wasn't eating pellets at the vet but had been eating hay, grass and veg well so they thought he should come home. After 17 days at the vet they (and I) thought he was probably fed up.

Weirdly, within 4 hours of being home he's eaten 6g of pellets, his first since he fell ill.

Leaving him alone as much as possible today to relax back at home.

Brilliant, I really have believed he’d eat a lot more at home. I am so pleased that he seems to be on the road to recovery :D

Lovely to see a photo of your brave boy and I'm so pleased that he started eating more when he got home :D
