What’s the best hay for a 2 month old bunny?

Some recommend alfalfa, some Timothy, maybe a mix of both? I’m very confused as this is my first rabbit ever and want the best for the rabbit. I would love some more information on how and what to feed a bunny and also as it grows older. I’m not very interested in pellets as I’ve seen they aren’t mandatory to feed and would love a more natural diet.

Thanks

The Rabbit Welfare Association and Fund are a great source of a vast amount of information about all aspects of Rabbit Care

A small amount of Hay, as long as it smells fresh then any type would be ok, a small amount of Pellets and then in another month you can start to give him small pieces of Spring Greens, maybe a Dandelion leaf or two, maybe a handful of fresh grass but no carrots or fruit at this stage, no treats with corn or seeds in them No Rabbit will come to harm on this diet.

A small amount of hay? Have I misunderstood? I thought hay should form the main part of a rabbit’s diet?

Make the change slowly. Start by giving a little hay instead of some of his alfalfa and increase the ratio of hay to alfalfa over a few weeks until he is getting lots to hay and no alfalfa.
The best hay is the one your bunny will eat.

The Rabbit is only 8 weeks old so if it were me I would feed small amounts of foods so you can monitor exactly what he is eating/preferring and then build on this. The aim is he will be eating everything you give him but not letting him get hungry. As he gets older he should always have plenty of hay of course and at around 5months I would reduce pellets to a small amount with small amounts of veg, forage or herbs. He can also have Readigrass at 8 weeks old.

Thank you for explaining - I get it now! I can be thick at times!
