Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes for Dara Please - U/D Improving

InspectorMorse

Wise Old Thumper
She has an ongoing problem with bladder sludge and cystitis. This afternoon she has obvious pain from cystitis ☹️

She is on treatment, but at the moment she’s very uncomfortable and not eating as a result.
Any spare vibes would be much appreciated.
☹️

Thank you

She is on fluids and pain relief at the moment, plus prokinetics and syringe feeds to keep her GI tract moving. Been advised to hold off abx as urinalysis shows no active infection.

Poor girlie, cystitis can be rotten ☹️

Sending beautiful little Dara lots of vibes. She is in the best hands with you and John Joe. Sending her lots of vibes for a quick recovery. Hugs to you too.

This morning Dara is doing better. She’s showing her unimpressed Nethie attitude again, yesterday she had no sass at all.

She will remain on Metacam and fluids today. She’s eating and pooping now so after this morning’s dose she will not need any more prokinetics.

If only I could get her to drink more and eat more fresh foods. She really isn’t keen on any fresh veg, forage or herbs but loves all dried forages. She will eat a bit of fresh grass and fresh coriander. She will sometimes go a full 24 hours without having a drink. As a result she’s been getting episodes of bladder sludge and cystitis over the last year or so.

Thank you for the vibes x

Glad that Dara is feeling a little better. Have you tried her with cucumber and/or celery? Likely she won't like them, but would be worth a try as they contain lots of water.

Yes, she sniffs it then thumps and hops away. Usually with a back foot flick 🙄 She loves dehydrated cucumber though 🙄

She’s peeing loads now as she’s loaded up with SQ fluids. Hopefully it’s flushing all the nasties out.

I am not in her good books though, I am getting a lot of cross Nethie side-eye looks……

She has eaten some fresh grass. But mostly she’s eating hay. I don’t know how she can eat so much dry hay and yet drink very little at all.

Going to see if she might do the opposite of what is normal and drink more from a bottle than a bowl. She is a very brachy’ Nethie and she will often have sneezing fits if she does have a drink. She must inhale some water as her nostrils touch the surface of the water as she drinks. I doubt it’s pleasant to sniff in water. With a bottle this wouldn’t happen. But first I need to teach her how to use a sipper bottle……

I think the bottle is a good idea :)

I am glad she is feeling better. A bottle is worth a try. Can you give her sub q fluids every few days to flush? I know she may not drink if she gets too many sub q, yet it could flush out lots of sludge. I once had a Nettie on fluids all summer.

She already has them :)
