Urgent petplan & broken leg advice please

Oh Harvey, bless you for being such a brave boy, lots of love coming to you from me, my 2 bunnies and 1 puss cat. Good luck at vets little man xxxxxx

Hi everyone, thanks so much for the continued vibes!!

Harvey's appointment this afternoon went well. The vet is really happy with his wounds, good clean and the bruising is now starting to settle down. And couldn't believe how chilled out Harvey was with him, harvey obviously likes him.

He's now removed Harvey's pain relief patch, he can come off his gut stimulant as he seems to be eating and popping fine! :) the vet showed us the new X-rays including the pins and explained these to us, which was good to try and understand. Although Harvey is still dragging his left foot which isn't brilliant, there is defiantly nerve damage which I'm completely gutted about, but we've just got to wait and see if that comes back in time, or if we'll have to re-access it in the future.

overall he was really happy with Harvey's progress and we can now go for short periods where we can remove his come, but add it back on before we go to bed. So it's currently off and after a mega grooming session, he is fully chilled out relaxing! Xxxx

So all in all a good positive day, and Harvey is booked back in for another check up in 8 days just to check how everything is going & to monitor his movement.

I can't thank you all enough and your vibes are helping Harvey so much!

Fantastic. So glad that everything is going in the right direction. :thumb:

Topping up the vibes xx

I've just read the whole thread. I can't believe it. What a strong little bunny boy you have! Absolutely gutted for you about the whole thing. We put our trust in our vets and sadly some let us down and aren't worth the paper their certificate was printed on!
You're doing very well to keep calm with the original vets I know I'd find it hard to contain my anger at them. How are you getting along having reported them to RSPCA and the likes? Any responses?
Sending soothing vibes for Harvey and hoping his wife bun is looking after him xx

That's fantastic news, well done Harvey ! What a wonderful bunny mum you are too, sending you a big hug, and nose rubs for Harvey and Honey xxxx

Hi
Just seen this thread, what an awful time for you and Harvey.
So glad he is improving and sending vibes for a full and speedy recovery xx

Wow. What a fighter and how lucky Harvey is to have such caring owners. Do keep us updated on his progress - what a wonderful bun

Aww thank you so much, and I know... It's really knocked my confidence in vets now and no one will ever touch my bunnies again unless they have the experience in exotics?
I have reported them to the RSPCA, and have received an email saying someone will contact me shortly to discuss this. Trading standards have got back to me and apologise they can't really do anything, apart from help us report her to the main vets board. I'm currently holding off sending off my complaints form for the moment as I know this is going get messy and can't risk them not funding his treatment! What do you think?

But this new vet I'm with, said in all his 25 years in working with bunnies, he's never seen a rabbit thump break the bones that are broken and agrees with us that his has been mis handled. He says the way university's are these days there is a lack of knowledge on rabbits which is awful.

Xxx

Unfortunately you have to do an extra course in exotics to learn more about buns and then I *think* you need to actually go into to rabbits specifically. Don't quote me on that but I know fine well that the stuff they do teach on rabbits is completely out of date and not nearly enough considering they are the third most popular companion animal in the U.K. :(

When you first said about him breaking both legs I did wonder if maybe he had something wrong with his bones (as in a deficiency or disease reducing bone density and strength etc) but I would presume they would have noticed when they pinned his first leg if something was wrong. I still can't believe a VET broke both your bun's legs simply by mishandling him. I am not surprised you have lost your trust in vets. I must say after losing my first doe during a dental I completely lost trust in vets too. It certainly is stressful not having a vet you can trust. At least he seems to be in good hands now with your new vets. x

Well once it had sunk in, I did ask him about him possibly have week bones and the vet said when he operated he checked and couldn't find anything to think he had a problem! Being honest, I have gone over his initial post op appointment with the stupid useless vet so many times.. And sadly she did push down on him twice as he kept skitting!

I can't believe it myself, and fully understand people make mistakes, but it breaks my heart to think how much pain he must have been in, and my new vet confirmed, the second break was after his first.. but in exactly the same place! he believes it was only a crack straight after seeing her which only snapped because he was then hopping on it! I asked him to put his views on paper which he has done & stands by his view. So that's good enough for me!

You must be relieved that Harvey's new vet was pleased with his progress. I wonder if he would be willing to write a letter stating in his opinion it wasn't a foot thump break? its always good to get as much info in writing as is possible.

Sending more gentle ear tickles & vibes x

Go Harvey, glad he is feeling better. Bunnies are defo more mainstream these days and with better care, and more house bunnies, rabbit training for vets should be to the same degree as cats and dogs I think. Particularly as bunnies are harder to diagnose as they are prey creatures. We have a fab bunny vet at our surgery, she nursed Arch through his lymphoma, you can really tell the difference when a vet really cares

Fantastic news, so glad Harvey's doing well! He is just amazing; between Harvey and Julie there is proof of just how strong and determined rabbits can be. They're my heroes.

I was relieved to see this update tonight. So glad the new vet is pleased with his progress.

Vibes that he continues to improve in this way.

Bless him, I keep checking in to see his progress. So pleased he's eating and pooping and having a wee groom! What an amazing wee bunny he is after all he's been through! Harvey the Wonder Bun :) x
