Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Repeated sneezing/snuffles?

Apologies for another thread, some of you may have seen I've posted before about sneezing issues! All three of my bunnies have had sneezing episodes recently, two of which got better soon after having baytril and bisolvon in their water. Poor Gordon however was the last to start sneezing, he had a course of baytril but it didn't help. Today he finished a two week course of septrin. He has been sneezing a bit less and sounds less snuffly when eating etc but he's still have sneezing fits but now he sounds really wheezy while he's sneezing, rather than snuffly. He's been quite grumpy with me and Beano too. The last vet I saw said if the septrin doesn't work then injections every 5 days will be the next thing, but do you think I should ask for a swab to be taken? As what if the injections don't contain the correct antibiotics? Also does anyone know any other antibiotics that are used to combat snuffles?

Thank you. I think I will ask for a swab to be done before injections, would hate for those not to work. He's been really quite miserable, had a few scuffles with Beano and they hate going to the vets, it's a long journey with two bus rides. One of which we have to catch in the centre of town and they're always really busy.
