• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lillabelle not eating

I just want to say a huge thank you to Inspector Morse. She has been so much help for Lillabelle and has been giving us advice and 24/7.

I want everybun to know that Lillabelle would not be here now if it wasn't for IM. We will always be grateful to you xx

You are welcome 😀

Let’s hope that today she will finally receive the treatment she needs and that she will make a good recovery.

Thank you for your kind words and vibes. Lillabelle is home safe and sound 🥰 She is eating and pooping but she is still drowsy. She is a very brave girl. She was munching on hay in her carrier when we left the vets and the vet said she was doing so well eating like she was.

Everything went smoothly and she is recovering well. We had a long day walking about in Deal where the vets was. We sat watching squirrels tease the dogs in the park for a few hours. However I was anxiously waiting for the vet call and we were so happy to hear that her dental went smoothly. I am so relieved this is over as it has been a nightmare trying to get a vet to agree to her having a dental.ñ

I have a question though and I don't know if anyone is able to answer this. However...

We both remember clearly that we were to give Metoclopramide at half eight this evening and then twelve hours later and so on. But neither of us remember her saying when to give the next lot of Loxicom for dogs. We were discussing the Loxicom and she told me off for giving it 12 hourly and said to give the whole 3 mls in one dose. And now we don't remember if she told us when?

We tried the OOH and they said they couldn't advise us over the phone. I was trying to remember in the past and I think we started it in the morning? We don't know but we have decided it is better to give her too little than too much. Her safety is of paramount importance. But I don't want her to suffer any pain. Are we doing the right thing leaving it to tomorrow morning please?

Oh yes remember Vintage vets who injected her with Metoclopramide without listening to her tummy and checking it was not blocked first?

Well the claim for them has not gone through. They tried to claim for their jabs??? I did find that amusing that 🤭
I didn't mean I found the situation amusing. Just that they have not a clue. Out of interest, is there a way that you can complain about a vet? I feel that we should do something or another bunny could not be so lucky?😥 My OH does not want the stress and we are both just thankful that Lillabelle is fine. However I wondered if it was a difficult process. Has anybody had experience of this please?

Just focus on L for now Come back to thinking of making a complaint once L is fully recovered.

I have benefited from her guidance in the past and will be forever grateful.❤❤

I am glad to read lilabelle's dental went smoothly and she is doing well😍

I would not give her more until tomorrow morning. Is she eating and pooping? It’s important that she has output overnight.
Thank you. I feel much better now you have said that.

She has eaten some spring greens and a couple of parsley and one dill around 7.30pm. Then she did around 10-15 good size just a bit soft poops. Then 9pm ish she ate quite a bit of soft hay. And some dried dandelion leaves just now and pooped 10 more after.

She is mainly wanting to sleep so we are letting her recover with not much input from us. We are happy to leave her be as she is eating regularly but if it starts to slow down we will gently encourage her to eat again. Oh and we give her a bottle of water from time to time and she has been drinking well.

We are not doing syringe feeds tonight as she is doing well on her own. She is now grooming Chief's head which has to be a good sign as well showing normal behaviour. I am very happy how she is doing but I am keeping an eye on her still ❤

She has weepy eyes. I wondered if it is a common reaction with a dental as the teeth are linked to her eyes?

Yes that is what I am thinking. I wonder if he may complain about the insurance claim being rejected but it was his fault trying to put their jabs on the claim.

I am not worrying about it now. We just want Lillabelle to get better now ❤

I am sure she helps buns every day in some way. A real ambassador for bunnies ❤

Yes I was having tummy flips all day but we have her back home and she is doing well. I said to Jane today that Lillabelle is a plucky bunny. My OH and I feel very privileged to have got to know Lils that much more through this time. She has so much fight in her 🥰

yes, it can happen as a lubricant is put in the eyes during a GA. When unconscious there is no blink reflex and the lubricant is to protect the corneas of the eyes from dust particles etc. Also, if tooth root elongation is an issue ‘runny eyes’ frequently occur/ get worse after a dental. If the problem doesn’t settle down over the next 24 hours or if her eyes are very inflamed (some Rabbits react badly to the additives in some lubricants) then she’d need some additional treatment, ie eye drops. So you’d need to speak with the Vet…..again……about this.

It’s good news that she has had some output and is eating for herself. I would try to be as ‘hands off’ as possible now.

Did you remember to ask for a print out of the clinical notes from her admission ? They will tell you *exactly* what the findings were during the dental and what was done to correct the problem. This information would be extremely useful to have.

It might be a good idea to ask for a printed discharge care summary in the future. This should include details of any medication to be given, the dose and at what time. It should also include details of what to expect during recovery and what to do if there are any concerns.

This is a lovely update to read this morning, well done Lillabelle 😍 I hope she and Mischief remain happy and healthy for a long long time, give you and hubby a chance to relax, they are lucky bunnies though ☺️

I forgot to ask for a print out receipt. We were just so happy to leave and go home. I will have to remember in future. Her eyes are fine now though 😊

L is back to eating well and Mischief has been licking her head a lot today. He obviously missed her. We decided to leave him behind as they would be in different cages and Chief hates the vets so much. We have left her alone except for giving her meds.

We are so happy that she has recovered so well and we are back to almost normal again. Thank you everyone for your posts. I have been asleep so much today as so tired from lack of sleep this last 3 weeks. I feel like I could sleep for England still .

You can call the vet and ask for a print out of her clinical notes. It’d still be very useful to have the information, I’d certainly be interested to know what was found and what was done.
