Hazel piggy July 2021 - 27/12/24

SarahP

Wise Old Thumper
We've had to have Hazel piggy put to sleep. She had what seemed like a UTI in October which responded to antibiotics. Then a few days ago she seemed to have similar symptoms (drenched in stinky urine, blood). She had an x-ray and ultrasound, as well as antibiotics, and was booked in for a spay on Monday, but she has gone downhill ever since. We decided today that she wasn't fit for surgery even if she could have been fit in as an emergency.

We got Hazel as a baby with Bramble. They were born into rescue, as their mum was part of a surrender from a hoarder, I think. It was lovely to have baby piggies again, as we hadn't had any since we started rescuing rather than buying. My husband named her Hazel, but I kept thinking at first her name was Nutmeg (for some reason!), so I always called her Hazel-Nutmeg!

Hope these pics attach OK. One is of Hazel in December 2021, so she was still quite little, and the other is from earlier this year when she was wondering why her best friend Molly was in a separate part of the cage after her spay. She just has such a cute expression on her face.

Oh Sarah, I'm so sorry  Hazel was a very cute piggy.

Sleep well Hazel, you were a much loved little girl.

So very sorry that you have lost Hazel, she was very sweet looking. Sweet dreams little piggy xx

There's just something about piggies.❤️
I'm so sorry you've lost your Hazel. What a pretty little girl.

Thanks all.

Urgh, what a sad day. It's weird but I'm finding the decision gets easier with time (I suppose from having had lots of guinea pigs, so you learn when to say goodbye), but the loss of each pet obviously never gets easier.

The two remaining pigs seem a bit nervous at the moment. I hope it won't all fall apart as a pair. I think we'll probably want to add another one in to keep the peace at some stage.

I am so sorry for your loss of cute Hazel. . She was lucky to be adopted by you as a baby and have a lovely life with you and her piggy friends.
