• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Breeding help

New Kit
Hi, we had a male and 2 females all nearly 3 years old. We bred them last year and had 3 good sized healthy litters 4, 6 and 5 all babies survived. This year we have started to breed them again but so far out out of 3 litters both mothers have had only 3 babies and none survived. We put the first loss down to cold weather as it was early March but same thing has happened twice more this week. Not sure if it related or a coincidence but the buck died on Sunday night. He was fine until this Saturday but then went off his food. We were going to take him to vets on Monday. Any advice on what could have caused change?

I'm sorry you're loosing rabbits. Vaccination status would have been my first question too following multiple losses
Rabbits go downhill very fast when poorly, is your vets open on a Saturday (quite a few are now), or if you call their number they will have out of hours protocols in place, just in case for the future as Saturday until Monday is quite a long time to wait for a vet
