Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Daisy

Hey all!
Daisy is doing amazing! She was so active last night, she took her oxbow and some pineapple juice and did some more poo!
Woke this morning to find even more poo and a cheeky little girl playing under my desk!
Tried syringing more food as she hasn't eaten a lot (she had a nibble on some dried herbs) but she only had 3ml, she refused to have anymore was more interested in having a nosey on my bed!
I've put her back with the others now, Cookie chased her but Lulu and Snowball were so happy to have her back! Shes chilling atm, settling back in to the crazy bunny land out there.
Will be keeping an eye on her and making sure she's eating, if not i'll be syringing her again until she does it solo :)
her poops are nice and round and again one this morning looked more hair then anything else x

Wonderful news Sharpie, I'm so relieved for you! xx

Hey all!
Thought I'd update again.
Had to bring her back inside last night, she refused her food again!
She was sat on her own and didn't want anything I offered.
Last night she did 2 wee wees and a pile of small poops.
We offered her a carrot with a tiny top on and she nommed the top! So I offered.some celery leaf and she nibbled some! Between.1am and 6am she ate some.of the carrot!
Going to try and persuade her to eat some more today!
She's currently hiding in a cardboard box so the evil mummy can't see her and syringe food into her little mouth xD

I'm sorry to hear that Daisy is not so well again.

After your last vet visit a couple of people asked if you had been given any pain relief and gut meds to administer at home. I might have missed your response, but in my view it is important to continue with the medication at least until the rabbit is eating normally for themselves.

Perhaps give your vets a ring today and get their advice.

The vet didn't give me any to take home, he said whatever he injected would last 3 days?
Mini update; She's nomming some grass and dandelions as I type! She's done a wee and some poops in her box.
She's a bit stroppy today as we blocked her off from playing under the desk but it was so we could easily see her, I've cleared it so she can play in the daytime as it's not dark there now lol.
Will keep you all posted :)

I really hope she picks up. As I mentioned before, bringing home the meds is preferable, and if you need some you should be able to get some without having to take Daisy back in. She's been seen by the vet already so they know the score, and another visit will only stress her out.

Good luck Sharpie :)

Unfortunately that is not factual, unless of course all he injected was a long acting corticosteroid..............?

If you have a receipt/invoice from the consultation the drugs given should be listed on it. I am afraid I think Daisy may need some more Veterinary attention given that she appears to have deteriorated again. In cases of gut stasis appropriate medication (gut motility stimulating meds and pain relief) often need to be given for several days. A single dose of gut motility medication will not last for 'three days' At most the therapeutic effects lasts about 12 hours.

I hope you don't mind me saying but I think that you should try to find a different vets in your area which is more knowledgeable with rabbits.

Daisy should have been given pain relief from day one and I'd be slightly worried that this wasn't the case considering your vet thought that she was in pain. Like already stated, a rabbit in pain won't eat and a single dose of a gut motility drug doesn't last anywhere near 3 days.

Your vet doesn't seem very knowledgeable with rabbits so if money is sometimes tight then it would be a good idea to go to a vet that gets it right the first time so repeat visitis aren't necessary. This will only cost you more in the long run.

I hope that Daisy is well today :)

X

Hi sharpie, topping up the Vibes for daisy!

I also agree with roxyrollar.. She really does need to be on pain medication for a few days at least o help her over this, but at the moment your vet obviously has no idea & sounds pretty useless!!!! Please try and look elsewhere for a vet that has more experience in rabbits. I personally would never take my rabbit there again, and honestly really shocked with how they have treated you and daisy, it's so unfair!

Can you maybe let us know your location in London and I'm sure many on here will be more than happy to recommend their good vets! Also about payments, it might be worth looking to set a little account by where you can save some
Money aside for Bunny emergencies. I know only too well how much bunnies can cost and a good vet is vital as they'll give the right treatment straight away and save you money in the long run.

I really hope you take our advise and try and find a better vet to help look after your gorgeous girl. It's horrible seeing them in pain, and all it takes is a good vet to make her feel as comfortable as possible. You have done a great job with her, but now need to find a good vet that will also show her the love and support she needs to get better. xx

Hey all :)
Ruthyjones89 were struggling this time for money as my partners daughter is coming down and her mother being an evil ***** refused to pay a penny to help her get here (even though she works) so we've had to find the whole train fare, food costs and everything from our tiny benefits pay :'( When lady Blue was ill we sold everything we owned, our xbox, Ps2, Nintendo ds etc.. As her bill came to way over £200! Once his daughter has been I'm hoping we can save some funds again as we have an isa for that reason lol!

Update on madam....
She's done some poops and wees today, she also nommed.some grass, dandelions, carrot (early hours) a tiny cabbage leaf and half a lettuce leaf!
I'm gonna pop her back with friends (worried.about losing the bond) and see what she does for bedtime, if she runs in and eats I'll be happy.. If not then shell be back in for the night until she learns to eat solo lol

I know you're doing your best x

Hi sharpie, that's great news about Daisy and I'm sorry If I come over a little strong, but people will know with my previous experience.. I can't stand vets that don't actually know what they are doing when it comes to rabbits. They are technically classed as exotic pets, and it's so sad that so many vets just have no idea on the basics of helping rabbits. Surely anyone with half a brain cell knows that a rabbit won't eat if it's in pain, and his answer to you sending you home without any meds was just pathetic!! I actually had a vet forcefully break my rabbits back legs, which was heart braking enough and all because she didn't know how to handle them.

As for the money, look I know you'd do anything you would need to to keep your bunnies safe, but some people just have no idea how expensive rabbits can be. And it breaks my heart when people say they can't afford to take them to the vets.. And leave that little bunny in pain! But I know that's not you Sharpie & you'll always put your bunnies first, which is amazing and can't give you enough credit for! I know my story is different as I'm with a specialist now, and for the rest of my life will only deal with specialist vets, but In the last 12 months alone, we have spent over £8k on my rabbits! (Just to put that into perspective!) But please please consider looking at a different vets, just maybe one with some more knowledge on rabbits so little Daisy will get the right treatment next time.

Your doing a great job and I'm sorry if I come across very strong, I'm just a very passionate person and After loosing my gorgeous boy, I'll always hold myself responsible because I took him there and don't want you having to feel like me. Xx

Hey all :) Sorry I forgot to update!
She's completely back to normal :)
She's scoffing her face, first out the door for breakfast and being her sassy self <3
We had a little.issue with her and her sister lulu squabbling but after me sitting outside with them all and breaking up the big fights they calmed a bit.. They would groom each other but when one moved they'd bite their bums! I sat outside for a while and snowball came to keep me warm by sleeping next to me <3 and they finally kissed and made up! They're back to normal now :D
