Thank you so much for the lovely messages everyone, it really helped to read them when I was feeling quite down.
Hugo's there - not sure about acupuncture but I will bear it in mind if something more is needed.
Vegan Bunny - I'm not sure about possible healing, I *think* we're just preventing further injury.
Well, Binky is home
I went to collect him by appointment and saw the x-ray and I wanted to cry, I felt so so sad and sorry for the poor bunny to have inherited this
Viewed from top his spine has quite a twist to it and his pelvis is quite clearly at an angle which no doubt causes other problems. I was wrong about where the collapse is, it is right by the misformed vertebrae so kind of waist level then up two bones (I think
) The pain is most likely from these bones pressing on the nerves at this point, you can imagine how painful it must be. FHB also commented that his bones look quite light on the x-ray indicating possible osteoporosis, possibly due to poor diet as a youngster - so unlucky on two counts!
Then, as if that isn't enough, she then said that we could start worrying about the liver also but best not to go there .... for anyone that doesn't know Binky's litter mate had a deformity of the liver that meant he wasn't getting the nutrients from his food as it was configured wrong with the blood vessels, this also caused him to not be able to cope with a GA. Binky's liver doesn't look right and "is small" on the x-ray - I suppose this means the prognosis for any lengthy surgery would be more guarded then... as well as I suppose the potential for him not getting the correct nutrients from his food also. Boy this poor rabbit has been so unlucky it's just heartbreaking. FHB said that Binky was an unfortunate name, given the circumstances and I explained how it wasn't just given to him but that he earned it, it's so hard to believe seeing the x-ray that he was racing around and flying through the air during the summer
Anyhow after driving him home and thinking he was severely handicapped, I got him home and he's been periscoping (gingerly) and keeps leaning against the bars when socialising, he can hop and I've seen him scrabble using both front paws and he's also used his back legs to scratch his ears.... so I'm feeling more optimistic than I did when I collected him. He's living close to my front door and when I got home from work he was leaning against the side of my pen as greeting me as if he'd always lived there, I think he will like being a housebun after all
And the way I was greeted by Artie when I just brought his greens gives no clue to him being anything other than thriving
