• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes for Toby please

My beloved Toby is seriously ill with gut stasis despite both quick home and veterinary treatment. He is bright and alert but has minimal gut sounds. Such a sudden onset. He was jumping for joy yesterday evening and enjoying cuddles. He is in good hands at the vet but I am super worried. I really hate gut stasis. I’m very experienced but it can really blindside you !

Loads of get well wishes for Toby ❤️ I know the anxiety of them being away from home & poorly is horrendous but he's in trusted hands. I hope he is eating and pooping soon

Thank you . I am frustrated with myself. He usually responds to meds and syringe food quickly but not this time. Sometimes a more serious episode can start off fairly low key and it’s so important to rule out an obstruction and not continue to syringe feed.

Thank you so much for your replies. This forum is such a comfort when you need support from people who understand.

I am sitting with my other bunny Gracie as I’m finding it hard to sleep and wanted to check she’s ok. Gracie and Toby live side by side as despite multiple attempts using different strategies bonding has not worked. They are still very dependent on each other for company. They love doing things in parallel but cannot manage to share one space. I will call the vet in an hour or so to check on Gracie’s friend.

Sending lots of vibes for Toby xx
Thank you all for your messages. Toby is home this afternoon following IV fluids and meds. The vet wanted to see how he would do at home as he was brighter at the hospital but gut very slow, not eating and minimal output. Since coming home, he has eaten some plantain and parsley plus I have given another syringe feed and irregular poos are now slowly coming through. He has moments of activity and then flatter. So I think we are heading in the right direction but not out of the woods yet.

Sending more vibes. I hope he makes a full recovery. Did vet send him home with pain and gut motility meds?

Yes the vet did but I have them at home anyway as my other bunny Gracie has always had gut issues since she came to me.

Toby is slowly improving and producing a good amount of very small poos. He is eating but needs encouragement so still a way to go. Syringe fed through the night so a bit tired teaching today! Hopefully nobody noticed. Part of being a bunny mum.
