U/D Post 139 - Angelina's babies have been counted. Page 9

2 litters.

Hi there, I haven't read all the blog, but thought I would tell you what my experience is. We had an accidental litter followed by a second 30days later. Our mummy bunny coped really well. The first litter at 4 weeks old were hoping about and therefore in a pen. Which the doe could get in and out of. The second kits were in a nest box in a second pen, again one that the doe could get in and out but that the first litter couldn't. It's quite easy as the 4 week olds can't jump as high as mum.

The doe coped fine and I left it up to her to wean her babies off her, but she fed both litters. And she was very healthy and content. There was 11 babies in total. I made sure she always had tons of hay, food and water.

Hope this helps.

Hi guys, thanks for checking in. yesterday was a bad day. Our house is modern and the heating pipes are made of rubber. Angelina chewed oneearly today morning so we got up to a kitchen floor swamped by brown yucky water. Thankfully I had silicone tape for fixing pipes after the house had a hole so managed to wrap that copiously around the pipe. It deals to itself so drama over other than clearing up has wiped me put completely.

Anyway, while I was getting organised I shut mum in the crate with the babies and they all snuggled in together looking really cute. Mum did great putting up with them all.

She is very busy with her nest and going bald again quickly! Poor girl.:(:(:(

I'm so sorry I've missed this thread. I've only been on briefly each day for the last week or so. Sending lots of calming vibes your way. xxx

Oh dear Ali, it never rains.....:(

Hope you're ok apart from the drama. Cup of tea, feet up for a while me think (you not me! )xxx

Just read this thread, hope you're ok and sending lots of best wishes to you, Angelina and babies xxxx

Her aggression level is much higher today. I got nipped three times trying to feed her and the babies this morning! Her tummy seems to have dropped as well. If there's nothing by Monday we will know I was wrong!

Does usually go off their food about 12 hours before kindling, so that would be another warning sign

Poor Angelina

Hi folks, thought I would give you a quick update. She has been guarding the nest site today and not straying far from the entrance. She is fur pulling and nesting with a vengeance. I also collectedfresh hawthorn today and it's only had a tiny nibble.:shock:

I have made the decision to remove the babies, they are all putting on weight, eating well and bright. Mum is anxious and worrying st them so before something happens I think it is for the best. I think, well, maybe, .... Who knows but it's what I am doing.

When you say 'removing the babies' what does that mean, exactly?

Be careful because if she is fur pulling she may well be imminently about to kindle, so try not to be too busy in the kitchen, if at all possible.

I want expecting this till Sunday but wanted to give the older ones the best chance with their mum. They are managing a good foot leap ontoor over the barrier and coming into the main area of the kitchen and annoying her which is earning them nips and chases in return. I was hoping not to but am so worried she hurts one of her 4 week old babies.

No one is in the kitchen, all I have to do is lift the babies out of their current home and into the new one.I am leaving the crate they are currently in for the next babies.

:thumb: Sounds, to me, like a well thought out plan :)

If you do what you think is best for the bunnies in any given situation then you won't go wrong and will be able to justify each decision to yourself. Hopefully nothing will go awry though. :)

Good luck Ali

Wouldn't that be the most amazing present anyone of us could have! I would obviously have to seriously consider adopting one.;)

Mum is getting on with things in the kitchen, very restless and anxious so we are staying away.

Babies are settling into life in the living room, they will be well socialised anyway!;)
