Bunnies fighting

New Kit
Hi everyone,

I am new to owning rabbits and have rescued 2 in the past year- one girl (1 and a half years old) and one boy (2 years old). They are both neutered and were bonded in May of 2024. They had a fight in their enclosure that we use during the night and have not been able to be in the same room without fighting since.

I do not know what the best course of action is as I have tried introducing them in a neutral space but my girl rabbit bites his legs and pulls his fur out. Can their bond be restored? I am considering rehoming them as I do not feel it is fair that they are alone. Any help or advice would be massively appreciated.

I would get them both checked out at the vet. The boy may well need treatment for any bite injuries he has sustained. There may also be some underlying health issue with one of them that has caused a change in behaviour. The rabbits will pick up things that you are not yet aware of.

Has anything else changed in their environment? Anything spooked one of them, causing referred aggression?
Something has changed somewhere - it's a case of finding out what, and seeing what you can do about it.

Meanwhile, I would keep them out of sight and smell of each other so that they are both less stressed and can settle down again. It also gives you the opportunity to monitor them both to make sure they are eating, weeing, pooing, etc as normal.

Thank you so much for the response! Yes we took the boy (Barry) to get him checked over and the vets said he’s all good. We have not taken the girl (Willow) as I was not aware I could do that to check for anything underlying. Thank you for this suggestion.

We recently moved house in August but the aggression began in October so would that be typical for a change in behaviour to occur after time in the new house?

We have kept them separate for a few weeks now. Is there any way to re-introduce them without it causing them stress or them fighting?

Thanks again!
