Bonding rabbits

JEdwards

New Kit
Hi,

I am trying to bond my male neutered rabbit (2 years old) with a female (un-neutered) rabbit (17 weeks old). We originally started them off living next to each other in their own enclosure and gradually introduced them in a small neutral space and then expanded the space.

They seem to get on really well, there is no fighting, the female grooms the male and she even flops down in the enclosure with him. They have even binkied together in the enclosure but the male does not seem to leave her alone and constantly wants to mount her.

I keep gently pushing him off after a few seconds but he won't seems to leave her alone. She doesn't seem too annoyed by this and just runs away most the time. She does not seem stressed or scared and will sometimes mount him back.

We are getting her spayed in October as we think this may help but wondered if anyone has any suggestions?

Thanks

I would just keep a close eye on them at the moment. It sounds like normal behaviour, but could escalate until a couple of months after she is neutered. Chasing, mounting, a bit of fur pulling is normal in sorting out who is boss. Separate them immediately if there is a proper, locked on fight.

Thank you for the messages. Yeah she is definitely female. We have given them some more time and they seems to have settled more. They are snuggling together now and the male is not chasing her as much.
