• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Antibiotic side effects

Bertie is back on antibiotics for UTI. Unfortunately they don’t agree with him. He has a few health problems, mainly needing a dental he might not be fit for…

After just one dose of antibiotic he looked very sorry for himself and has had some very soft poo. Most of his poo is ok, although small as he isn’t eating hay.

Better news is that he loves emerald recovery food.

Bless him, sorry to hear he has a uti, glad he likes the recovery food. Hope he's feeling better soon, sending you lots of vibes Bertie x

It is good he loves emerald recovery food! Could the softer poo be from his eating recovery food instead of higher fiber foods like hay? It seems soon for it to be from abx? Is he getting any medicam for discomfort from the uti?
Sending him lots of positive vibes.

Thanks for your vibes. He’s on pain meds daily for arthritis.

Rudey was really miserable on antibiotics, he wouldn't eat his packed lunch & his digestive system didn't cope well. i'm not sure if him having kidney disease would have made side effects worse. I'm glad Bertie loves the emeraid. I'd check in with your vets about whether he needs meds reviewed eg should you continue with antibiotics& maybe up his pain meds to get him through this rough patch
