1st Time Rabbit Owner Veggie Advice!

Mine get 5 pellets each a day 😂 they really should only get a few, it's mostly hay/grass, some veggies and tiny amount of pellets.

Mine went to vet Friday for their yearly vax and the vet said they were absolutely fine but don't want them to get any larger 😂

I think a lot of people over do the pellets tbh

But see what the buns you get are being fed on and how much per day so you can keep it the same for them initially :)
Oh wow😂Yeah I’ll see what they’re being fed and see what I think, keep an eye on their weights and stuff😂I probably feed my piggies too many pellets but I have reduced mine a bit but their weights are fine and I think they’re more important for piggies for the vitamin c :)

Yea my pigs get way more and in a bowl, rabbits get them fed by hand like treats or scattered, but seperately otherwise my female eats them all 😂

Good advice (y)

Many people will overfeed pellets and obesity is a serious problem with rabbits. It can lead to health issues, plus can make any health issue worse. Don't go by the quantities given on the side of the pellet bags. The manufacturers want you to buy more

I feed my two an eggcupful each per day, spread over four different times and hand-feed them. I hand-feed to ensure that one bunny doesn't have more. Pellets are also a very useful health check. I know that if they refuse pellets, they are unwell.

Yes, see which pellets they are being fed, when you get them. Then I would gradually change or reduce the quantity, according to what you want to feed long term, but do it very gradually.

Yeah same with mine :D Seems like pellets are more like treats for rabbits!😂Thanks for your help though! I’ll keep you guys posted when I get the rabbits and let you know how things are going!❤️🐰

Of course they want you to buy more😂Yes I’ve seen an eggcupful on lots of websites so I’ll probably start with around that amount - but see what they’re being fed first and adjust!

Oh yea we want pictures! 😂😍

Definitely agree about them being like treats

If you are adopting from a rescue, check their specific requirements for a rabbit set up...it can vary. The default is the RWAF recommendations.

I don't go overboard on toys, etc. Tunnels are useful and a small shelter out in the run. Often they like to jump on top of things. Other than that, they need hay, litter trays and plenty of space. Things like branches (willow, apple, etc) can be placed at different heights and angles to stimulate natural feeding behaviour. Don't underestimate how high a rabbit can jump, especially if you are just used to G Pigs.

Mine get no more than 10 pellets a day, hand fed as treats.

It’s a good idea to weigh your Rabbits once a week. It’s a good way to monitor their overall health and make sure that they are maintaining a healthy weight 😀

Agree with all of this. Mine are in a shed with attached outside runs. They very much like a large cardboard box for feelings of security, which is in the shed. They do destroy it, but don't eat it. If your rabbits eat cardboard then it will need to be removed.

I’ll be adopting from the RSPCA - I’ve checked their guidelines and what I’m getting fits into that, and actually exceeds it!
Oh I didn’t mean like ridiculous amounts of toys I was including hides and their other needs like litter trays in that. I was just saying I have a lot to buy😂 Ill get lots of chew toys but rotate them for different days and I’m planning on getting things to jump and relax on (oh I know they can jump very high😂)but yes I totally get they need space more than anything.
I’ve done lots of research and looked at loads of different people’s setups and things so I’ve hopefully got a good idea of what they need :) Thank you!🥰

Oh yes I will be doing that - my piggies get their health check once a week with a weigh-in so ill be doing the same for the rabbits :D

That’s what I’m planning to get - an insulated shed with attached run by a tunnel :) Yes I’ve seen cardboard boxes used as hides at the RSPCA, they do love shredding them😂

It’s lovely to read of someone doing lots of research and planning before they get new Rabbits. Not just buying them on a whim with no idea of what their their true needs are. It sounds as though the two you are adopting will have a great home 😀❤️

Aw thank you!❤️I really wanted to do this right🥰I’m a big advocate for proper care for any small animal, plus I do love learning all about different exotic species anyway so it’s not a chore for me to research😂
