  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Vibes For Rupert Please UD p57 PM Results

Over the weekend he was on Septrin, I think they said they were going to try Baytril :? I'm not sure if it's an infection or pneumonia, all I know is there's fluid on his lungs. So I don't think I can make suggestions when I don't really understand what's going on. (They all sound like good suggestions to me though!)

It's been hours now. I don't know what's happening. Have they spoken to FHB? Have they sent the xrays? They're closed now, I don't know who is dealing with this or who is going to phone me back. My usual vet isn't there today and it's a different vet or nurse for every phone call.

If anyone can help it's FHB, I just don't know if she's around to advise. She could be on holiday for all I know.

:cry::cry::cry:

ETA: I think he's not eating now and is looking very depressed

I'm so sorry that you are in this position. It's dreadful when you feel so helpless.

One thing that went in Wally's favour was that, despite his lungs being an absolute mess, he continued to eat and continued to fight, his strong will helped him through. I'm really sorry to hear that Rupert isn't eating now.

They've spoken to a couple of exotics vets (I don't know if it was FHB) who says there's nothing more that can be done. The vet also thinks she can feel a lump in his abdomen now which may be the cause. He's suffering, and they don't think he'll make it through the night, so I've given permission to let him go :cry::cry:

Going to collect Misty now

Thank you. Misty was ignoring the body when I got there and munching away. She'd moved away from him today and sat at the other side of the cage. Usually they sit with their faces touching, so she knew he was dying.

The vet had another feel and is pretty sure there's a lump there. They'll do a PM in the morning. They didn't know what was causing the fluid build up, that's why they couldn't tell me.

I'm so sorry Helen.

You gave him the best chance you could. Sometimes we just can't fix them

Thinking of you and Misty xx

Sweet dreams Rupert xx

So sorry to read your update - sad news. I hope you and misty find comfort in each other. Take care . X x

I'm so very sorry Helen  Sending comforting hugs for you and Misty. xxxxxx
Binky free Rupert. xxxxxx

Just got the PM results. Rupert's kidneys were very abnormal, with masses on them and his liver too. There was a secondary spread of masses in his lungs. So it seems he was a very poorly bun, who had coped with the masses on his kidneys and liver, and only started to struggle when they spread to his lungs. I don't think there's anything else we could have done for him. Relieved that it's nothing that could be infectious and that we didn't miss anything that could have been treated.

Misty got stuck into her dinner as soon as we got back yesterday and seems to be coping well.

Binky free Rupert

Poor wee soul, he obviously soldiered on whilst being very poorly,,, Binky Free Rupert xxxxx
