  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Sylar not eating again :(

My o/h won't drive on motorways in his car because it's awful. It takes about 90 minutes doing it that way. About an hour if we risked the motorway but we both hate them.

Our car was broken so we had to get taxis! Each round trip plus waiting time cost £120  When we picked him up after his op we got a train there and a taxi home which saved us quite a bit of cash but we couldn't of done it that way with him with us. We had to change at Manchester Piccadilly which would have been way too busy for him :(

It's difficult having to factor in a long and expensive journey to a specialist, however worthwhile it is. The other alternative is for your vet to phone Molly and send all the details. Nothing like the real thing, but I guess you don't want to lose time.

Or a wiling friend? I wish I was closer, I would help you in a heartbeat x

Thank you Mighty Max, that's very kind of you :)
I think we will just take him when the first lot of insurance money comes through. I don't regret a single penny that I spent on Hiro and I know I won't this time either!
As for friends, well... we don't have many. Just a few very close ones. They all live a little out of the area or work very long hours during the week. I wouldn't expect them to take a day off work.
It's weird though, he seems ok now. Not 100% but he's still eating hay and he's also eaten some pellets and some parsley tonight. I'm wondering now if it might have been the fireworks after all. But I think that I will constantly worry if I don't see Molly.
I do need to find a half decent local vet too though. I've completely lost faith in the practise that we currently use. And I think that they are losing patience with us too.
In all honesty we probably should have stopped using them after they wrongly treated Hiro but they were so gentle with him that we decided to stick with them. We are going to do lots of ringing around on Monday :)

I hope you manage to find a more Rabbit Savvy Vet locally. I know all too well what it's like regarding the complexities of travelling a long way to see Specialists. Had I had to do that with Morse he would never have survived the journey. He HATED car travel and on two occasions he collapsed just going down the road to my local Surgery. Thankfully his medics came to him, except when he needed surgery. Molly does take telephone consults from Vets and she is usually more than happy to help if she can. Sometimes we have to work with what is achievable and realistic and that may be that the Rabbit cannot travel but a Specialist's valuable input can still be attained.

I hope that Sylar is continuing to do OK today xx

Thanks :)
I have found a vets reasonably locally that I know have happily consulted with Molly in the past and my rabbit boarder uses them too. Its not around the corner like my current vets but they also have their own out of hours service which I'm also quite interested in.
Sy seems fairly happy tonight and he's certainly more interested in food :)

You're welcome, and I mean it!

It's very strange with the eating pattern, isn't it? You really do need to get to the bottom of what's going on - it must be driving you nuts, what with B&B giving you the runaround as well :)
