Rabbit has myxi

Has he been seen by a Vet again today ?
If he is not on any anti-inflammatory medication then yes, he will be in pain.

IMO he needs to be hospitalised and medicated appropriately. From the photos he looks to be positioning himself to extend his airway. In other words struggling to breathe.
He really cannot be without anti-inflammatory analgesia, nebulising and Oxygen therapy. I do hope you can get him to a Vet tonight

I don't know for definate, but with the way his ears are carried and facing, he seems quite content

Is he not on pain killers? If not, they will help with any pain he is in.

There was a bun on here that looked allot worse than yours:cry:

Have you found a rabbit savvy vet in your area? I am sure someone on here who lives near you could recommend one.

He is beautiful:love:

unless you have had a bun with this you do not understand.in my opinion your bun has full blown myxi as he doesnt appear to have any nodules on him? dont just sit there leaving him like that it is so cruel.the difference you see once they are on pain relief is amazing.

i cant believe you did that how could you take such a risk ?
Myxomatosis is spread by direct contact with an affected animal or by being bitten by fleas or mosquitoes that have fed on an infected rabbit. The myxomatosis virus does not replicate in these insect hosts, but can be physically carried by an insect's mouthparts, i.e. from an infected rabbit to another susceptible animal. Due to the potential of insect vector transmission, pet rabbits may be susceptible in enzootic areas and vaccination is highly recommended.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Myxomatosis i think you need to read that link which is all about the horried illness and you will find it is passed on by direct contact between rabbit
my vet says were gloves when handling the rabbit and change clothes before handling others this illness wipes out rabbitrys every year its not a illness you can take lightly

I DID say that this was NOT the place to start the argument again. I am well aware of this wiki thread and have read IN DETAIL the reference articles it quotes - and the ones quoted by the references they in turn quote - noting the dates, circumstances, aims and methodologies etc of the research carried out.

If you wish to continue the conversation you may wish instead to re-open one of the many other threads already discussing this very thing.

Do you vaccinate all your Rabbits ?

no because my vet says its a waste of money vacinated rabbits still can get it and still die from it there is no guarentee they wont get it if there was i would spend £1000 per mth doing it but there isnt
prevention is better keep fleas and mozzies out the way has worked for over 9 years so far i screen the the windows have fly paper you to catch insects and have a wonderful collection of spiders in the shed who earn their keep buy keeping insects down flea treat cat and dog and keep well away from any rabbit that has had myxi
i used to vacinate but after the vaccine its self killed 2 of my rabbits and made 3 others very ill i discussed it with my new vet who its fantastic and he said there was no need and its money down the drain which can be better spent i ivomec every 6 mths and coxide them every 6 mths and thats it unless they are ill and then they go to the vet for treatment
thats it and so far touch wood we have been fine

look i'm sorry right... but would you like to be left in lots of pain for a long time? this is serious. he could die. he is in pain and he can't breathe! he needs to go now! as everyone keeps saying. he ideally needs to be kept in as jane said. he is extremely poorly.

The aim of this thread is to help the person who is currently sadly battling myxi with her rabbits - so if we are going off thread lets start another one instead as this will not help her.

you asked me a question i answered it for you :?
yes i know what the thread is about i have advised her on that and you turned round and practically said i was wrong i provided the proof and information they need and you accussed me of starting a argument which im not, im doing what i think is best providing her with the information she needs to help her rabbit that is ill and keep her others safe, im passing on vital information my rabbit vet has passed on to me and information i gained by doing 3 years in animal care and working with animals for over 15 years

Look, it doesn't matter anyway as this is the only rabbit I have

The vets doesnt open till 9 which is when I have an appointment. I can't do anything whilst its shut

sweetie if you worried and you think the bunnie is in pain or is having problems with breathing etc call your vet they always have someone on call who will be able to see you
if you think all is well then leave it as your at vet in morning anyway only you can decide were not with the rabbit you are so you will know if it needs the vet tonight or tommorrow
good luck

I think you will find I did not ask you a question; neither did I accuse you of starting an argument but suggested that this was not the place to re-open 'the argument' (note difference )and I requested you changed threads if you wished to continue. . I also did not say you were wrong - I offered an alternative.. Alternative views are possible within academic and scientific areas, and between rabbit carers and rabbit vets. certainly your vet appears to hold a very different view to my own rabbit specialist vet. I would request again that you change threads or utilise PM if you wish to continue.

Haven't read all the thread - I lost a Vaccinated bun to myxi in June, but her nodules were in her throat & she was mouth breathing. I had her pts - out of fear for the rest of my buns (she was in a bonded group), but it wasn't looking good for her

In September I had 2 more buns get myxi - one died within a week:cry:, the other is still going strong. She still has myxi, but we are the right side of it now:D

Thank God I vaccinate - only one out of 3 survived it, but I couldn't have lived with myself, if I hadn't given them the best chance. Incidentally, I have fly papers, mossie nets, & spiders. My buns are inside. Didn't make a blind bit of difference

Took to vets this morn, he hasnt given him much of a chance. He gave him an injection of painkillers and give me four lots of antibiotics to inject. He's lying content at the mo but hes struggling to breath and has not eaten all day. He has had a couple of sips of water. I might try syringe feeding but hes not going to like it.
