  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mystery illness- update- still need help

I hope you can get some answers and appropriate treatment for Dizzy's condition.

Sending loads of vibes for him. xx

thanks everyone! its so fustrating as this afternoon i let him out in the garden and he was almost doing binkies and looked happier so i thought we'd cracked it... now a few hours later hes back to usual! maybe he tired himself out!!

will have to see what tomorrow brings!

Did the Vet check in his ears, especially if he is a Lop ?

Are his neurological responses normal ?

Also, has the Vet had a really good look at the Xrays for any evidence of arthritis in his lower spine and/or hips ?

not sure about ears but he's an up earred bunny and i have looked in them and they look ok to me and no head shaking or scratching.

He is responding normally and seems very alert.

Not sure if she looked for arthritus but can get her to check on friday. I've had a bunny with arthritus before and he's not showing the signs and has been on metacam since saturday. He was very lively today in the garden and had a bit of a runaround!!

this one is really baffling me! still hoping that it might be teeth with him perking up a bit today, but only bloods will give us more answers!

thanks jane!

I've just come on to see if Dizzy is any better, i'm sorry you've not had any answers yet :( i really hope he's better before your trip! Sending mega vibes xxx

i hope they manage to find out what it wrong, ,any times the blood tests themselves can show this as did with sox, sox had his bloods done and we had results 2days after

I keep checking for updates  I hope you have the answers you need by now x

been so busy with dizzy today but the good news is we think we have found the problem and its treatable!

His blood shows muscle damage most likely from trauma. This would account for his very tender abdomen! I have no idea how the injury has occurred but as he is a three legged bunny he could have easily fallen or misjudged jumping onto his platform. The rest of the bloods were fine.

This does all make sense with his behaviour and as I have been letting him exercise to help his digestion and this may have stopped the muscle healing!

So the plan is for him to stay at the vet whilst I'm gone and they are going to make sure he gets better rest and up the metacam. My vet is also going to confer with rabbit specialist, Simon Maddocks to see if there is anything else that may help.

i feel rather relieved now we know and can give him what he needs. He'll be in good hands at the vets so I can finally get excited about my holiday! I don't mind telling you I have been so anxious this week and not been able to get excited at all. i dropped him off earlier at the vet and settled him but did find it hard to leave him and ruby! but i've packed my bag and getting ready to have some much needed fun...and a few drinks!

thank to everyone who has shown support... it means the worl to us. I hope to update with good news when i get back on the 25th.

I'm really glad it seems you have found an answer. I hope you enjoy your holidays, let us know how he is when you get back.

I'm so pleased for you especially that it's treatable. You can go on holiday now stress free knowing he is in the safest hands.

Have a great time.

I'm so pleased you finally have something to work with! I am sure he'll be much better when you get back  now go and have fun!!! :D x
