  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

EMERGENCY - bunny with bloat

so sorry for your loss, my little bun has gi stasis at the moment and its horrible seeing them so poorly. hope you are ok .. thoughts are with you xx

Oh no I'm really sorry to hear that, my vet did say that sometimes the damage of the bloat/stretching the gut wall can be too far to repair itself & sadly only time really can tell, poor little man I'm sorry to hear he didn't make it, I'm sure he knew you were trying to help & loved him hope you'll be ok

i am so sorry this story didnt have a happy ending
Well done for looking after him so well xxxx
Sweet dreams Nermal xxxxxx

I really would NOT give Pineapple Juice. The sugar in it is far more likely to do harm than good in cases of bloat. This is because the sugars will 'feed' the 'bad' bacteria in the guts increasing the risk of a serious enterotoxaemia.

I only ever give advise which we have followed from what our vet has told us, our vet is one of the top rabbit vets in this country and advises internationally aswell. She told us Pineapple juice is one of the best things to help and when winnie was ill he had a good few small cartons of the stuff with no side effects. Obv I'm not a vet and can only offer help which I have been told/learned.

I'm so sorry to hear your lil baby has passed to the bridge your in our thoughts and so is Nerm. Love us xxx

So sorry you lost your bunny I too thought it would be a happy ending as so many of them are on this site. Both my buns have had it and it was trying to find an answer to bloat that I found this website but unfortunately like you I lost my Bobby.
