22 Rabbits!

Ok... So you don't need to vaccinate against VHD1 first and then wait a week, I can just do VHD2 on it's own? (it's just a different strain right?)

Maybe I should vaccinate the first mum to go outside against all 3 and the rest that are staying inside just against VHD2 on it's own?

Can I (or the new owner) the vaccinate against myxomotosis and VHD1 after the VHD2?

Hope that makes sense, thanks all for your help x

There are 2 vaccines - one does VHD1 & 2, the other does myxo and VHD1. You should leave at least a 2 week gap between them.
Personally, I would do all with VHD1&2, and the other as you can afford to (or tell the new owners to get it done if they are rehomed soon).
The best thing is to talk to your vet about what they recommend for your area. If there is a lot of myxomatosis locally, that should be your priority.
Also ask about discount for multiple vaccinations - you should get something eg 5 or 10% off. You can always ring round and ask for a price for them all doing in one go.

Re the Vaccines

The RHD2 Vaccine FILAVAC covers for BOTH strains of RHD (1 + 2)

The Myxo-RHD Vaccine (Nobivac Myxo-RHD) covers RHD1 ONLY

Personally I would get the Filavac done first. The Nobivac Myxo-RHD can be done 2 weeks later, although personally I try to leave it a bit longer than that.

There is another RHD2 Vaccine called EARAVAC, this ONLY covers RHD2 and only offers 9 months protection. FILAVAC offers 12 months protection.

So you need to establish beyond doubt the exact Vaccines your Vet will be giving. PM me again if I can be of any more help xx

very good advice

About half of them have now got rescue places through Animal Lifeline with Kelly0Joy Sherwood. I am really really concerned about their long travels to their new rescues. One is 'Leeds to Blyth and Blyth to Donnington to Tamworth maybe then somewhere in Worcs to GL14' another 2 are going 'Leeds to Blyth and Blyth to Donnington to Holbrooks'

Please can someone help put my mind to rest a little about this? I am doing the right thing, aren't I?

100% yes.

Whilst long journeys are never ideal for Rabbits, regardless of the specific reasons as to why the journey may be needed it is a case of weighing up the pros/cons/risks/benefits for the Rabbit(s)

Some Rescues will Rehome Nationwide, this inevitably means they will allow one of their Rabbits to potentially be transported over 100s of miles.

'Bunny Run Requests' used to be a frequent thread seen on RU, where a Rescue would ask for help transporting a Rabbit over a long distance. Sometimes this would involve several Forum Members doing part of the journey and then handing Bunny over to the person who had volunteered to do the next part.

Some of my past and current Rabbits had to travel from Derbyshire to London to get to me. Although I did get a bashing from certain rather verbose individuals about this, but it was because said Rabbits were bought from a Breeder, not because of the transport involved in getting them to me.

Taking on multiple Rabbits in one go can rapidly become overwhelming. I know, I have been in the situation myself. There can be so many things that can occur that mean a huge financial outlay is needed. I ended up having to remortgage my house at one stage.

You have Rescued all of the Rabbits and making sure that you do not get yourself into a situation whereby you cannot cope is extremely responsible and you should be very proud of yourself.

I took a rabbit from Leeds to Basingstoke: the longest section was Nottingham to Basingstoke, should have been 4hrs max but it was 5.5hrs due to traffic! Luna (bunny) was totally fine throughout :) Aboleth doesn't like travel but Lopsy is fine, and even Aboleth gets over her worry quickly.

I took my baby lions from Worcester - London and Lancaster- London on the train and they were fine.

Yes, you are definitely doing the right thing :) When I rescued my family of 4 Rexes I drove them for 5 hours from Gloucestershire to here and they were fine.

330 miles from Essex to Northumberland with 10 rabbits a few years ago which took us at least 8 hours due to traffic and stops. I was really worried about at the time(we were moving house). our bunnies had no problems at all. I put the carriers they were due to travel in inside their enclosures for a week before the journey so they were familiar with them and contained their own smells. The same carriers went into their new accommodation and they used them for shelters for a few days. One pair stayed in the carrier and hardly moved from it for a few days so they weren't too happy but they did keep eating. I had loads of extra yummy food for them - grass, forage and dried herbs.

The 5 have all settled into rescue now. I was incredibly emotional about the whole things but I know I did the right thing. Two more going to an amazing home later today and I've typed a detailed care sheet for the owners just to help them out. I'll only be left with the 5 babies and their mum now and I really want to keep them all. I am SO attached! This is going to be soo hard
