Tippex Porkychicken is poorly *getting better*

lilbun

Tippex Porkychicken would appreciate some RU vibes.
She had her myxi vac on Friday and by Sunday she was refusing food, hiding in corners, had cold ears and was slightly trembly. She was checked over before the vaccination and was in excellent health but for some reason the vaccine doesn't seem to agree with her- this is the third time she's been poorly 24 to 48 hours post injection. My other 4 buns were vaccinated with the same batch of vaccine and they are all fine.
She is having metacam and gut meds and I have brought her indoors with her friends who are looking after her. She is nibbling on the odd leaf and has eaten a few strands of hay/grass but not interested in pellets or her favourite treats. I am supplementing her with syringe feeds and she has a heat pad to lay on.
I will continue to vaccine Tippex Porkychicken regularly because I would rather nurse her through stasis than attempt to nurse her through full-blown myxi. I hate see her looking so sorry for herself though :(

She's such a beautiful bunny

I really hope she feels back to her old self soon! Lots and lots of vibes from me and the buns xx

So sorry she is poorly.

It must be a worry if she is unwell after her myxi vacs all the time.

I hope she is eating soon xx

Poor Tippex Porky Chicken, she has every good wish going for a speedy recovery.

I'm sorry I'm late to support you. It's the 1st. opportunity I've had to look at new posts.

I always used to find that protest at meds was an excellent sign of recovery from stasis.

I suppose that the problem is that myxi vaccine is an attenuated live Shope virus. So we're giving them a mild infection.
I wonder whether as she always reacts this way, giving her gut motility meds for 3-4 days after immunisation would avert the stasis?

Thanks everyone. She remains much the same. She has episodes or being relatively bright and will nibble on hay, grass, raspberry leaves or dried ribwort (fibrous stuff) but refusing everything else. She is mostly seeking out places to flop out- she is currently flopped out on the heat pad with Bunny Clifton flopped out beside her

Thumps: that's an excellent idea of giving motily meds before the stasis kicks in- I can't believe I never thought of it!

I have to give some thought as to what to do next time- I don't know whether there is a blood test available to test levels of immunity before vaccinating? Or maybe giving a reduced dose would be possible- e.g. just the intradermal part?

I agree :D We often use motility meds as a prophylactic for Nino. I should have thought of that too. Well done Thumps :thumb:

Hope she feels a bit better later on today :)xx

Everything crossed that her tummy starts to work today.

Come on Tippex, you love your food - you'll remember risking the oven for those dandelions?

The gut meds have kicked in and there is poo!

Not great poo but it's a start. She is alternating between sleeping and having little bursts where she crams in fibre and drinks. She is still rather weak. She fell off when she tried to jump onto her favourite shelf and toppled sideways a little when she tried to scratch her ear.
This is a fairly normal sleeping position for the Porkychicken:

Awww she is so beautiful, & looks so sweet & innocent lying down.

That's a good start for stasis. Come on little girl, more food in & poops out please.

Isn't she clever? She knows to stimulate her gut to work with fiber & knows to drink to prevent dehydration. I'm fascinated by the number of buns who know how to help us get them better.

Awwwww bless her, she is such a beautiful little girl :love::love:

Lots & lots more vibes for Tippex Porkychicken, hope she continues to improve xxx
