We’re away for 2 nights!!

Spike

New Kit
Hi ya, don’t know if anyone has any thoughts on this however, we have 2 white Rabbits (red eyes), they have a wonderful house, (cage), 3 stories with a house at the top, and test maybe over the top!!, I also have baby (pet cams), I can speak to them, BUT, tell me it’s just me, they seem depressed, and to be honest we are at home most days 24/7, work from home, but had to get away for an emergency family issue, I just wondering if they can actually get depressed, or down etc!,

Lovely white bunnies with little grey nose blotches 😍

They can certainly get down /depressed, yes. They are also easily bored & need lots of things in their environment to keep them entertained.

Are your buns in their cage most of the day? Rabbits love nothing more than to be able to run in a safe space, which isn't a cage unfortunately. Within that space its worth thinking of things to keep them amused ("enrich" their space), hide food stuffs, offer safe things to chew, places to hide etc . My buns like privacy in the day during snoozy time & venture out into more sociable areas in the evening.

They might be sad if they're used to being out a lot. Rabbits aren't really cage animals as they're a fair size and need a lot of exercise to stay healthy, keep their gut moving, and stay occupied.

I mean, a hutch with a big run attached works well, but for indoor buns it's easier / cheaper to just rabbit proof at least one room of the house to give them access to. Some people will use a cage as a base but not lock them in - just a place to have their hay, water, litter pan, etc.

Des and Blue are always out when we’re home, a neighbour does pop in to pet them and let them have a run around, I’ve also a treat ball in their cage to keep them amused together food treats out, licking as said I also have the baby (pet cams) to wish them good night and of course good morning , we’re on our back home 🏠 today 🐇 🐰!!
