Pets at home bunnies

Hey all looking into getting a rabbit possibly from p@h but have heard conflicting advice that they don't handle their pets so the bunnies will be shy, bitey and wont like being held. What's your opinions please?

Most rabbits don't like being held at all. Mine certainly doesn't and she's 10, she's always been that way. The rabbits sold there are young so won't have had much interaction with humans just by virtue of their age so they would need time and patience to get used to you.

It's better to approach a rescue if you can as there are so many bunnies needing homes already. Also rabbits need company of their own kind so it's always better to have more than one, you will probably find you see more of their personalities that way (I appreciate that contradicts with what I said above about having one rabbit, but she's only recently become a solo bun and due to her age I don't want to risk bonding her). Pets at home probably wouldn't tell you about the importance of companionship.

It very much depends on the store and the individual staff at P@H. The local ones to me tend to only do rehomed rabbits, but they do know their background (as far as they can with any handed in pet) and they did a really good job on socialising two guinea pigs I got last year.

Rabbits tend not to like being held anyway. I've rarely ever been bitten in nearly 30 years of rabbit ownership - so I would say most won't bite without good cause.

If you want the best option, try a local rescue. Any decent rescue will have vaccinated, neutered and bonded their rabbits. They will also be able to discuss each rabbit's habits / needs. It saves a lot of hassle for a new owner.

Rabbits can be affected by Strep’ too

And things haven’t improved since this

and as for this 🤬

I have had first hand experience of having to care for Rabbits purchased from PAH who had Coccidiosis, Pasteurella, Encephalitozoon Cuniculi plus hand rearing an orphaned litter after one of the ‘stock’ at PAH became pregnant and died 3 weeks after giving birth in store. The entire time she was in the ‘care’ of PAH she was housed in a busy shop environment. Cause of death - gut stasis, probably due to stress.

I would advise you approach a Rescue to adopt. Personally I will never give PAH a penny of my money again.
