• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Laser treatment for Glaucoma

Sonja05

Young Bun
Hello. 🐰
Has anyone had experience of their Rabbit receiving laser treatment for glaucoma? Unfortunately the treatments Hugo has received so far haven’t worked and his eyes are settling at a pressure reading of 38. On Monday he’s having laser treatment which is apparently 75% successful however I think if this doesn’t work, sadly it might be the of the road.

I would love to hear people’s thoughts and experiences. Thank you.

i'm sorry your bun has unmanaged glaucoma & really hope the laser treatment is successful.

If it doesn't work is eye removal an option?

Thank you for your kind words. I’ve not discussed the possibility of eye removal but both the eyes are struggling ☹️. Fingers crossed the laser treatment will help. He’s such a sweet soul and excellent little patient. ❤️

That will stand him well ❤️

Yeah I've no idea how a bun would cope with instant blindness - can he see with glaucoma? I don't know much about it. My bun had cataracts as was monitored for it but luckily her pressures were ok. I've also had a bun have her eye removed because it became ulcerated & she coped fine but completely different as she already had no vision from an old injury & it was just the one eye.
Worth a discussion with your vet though perhaps. Hopefully it won't come be needed, the odds are in his favour

He looks like he has lost his sight in one eye. He’s not in pain and his behaviour hasn’t changed at all, always a happy little bunny. Hopefully we’ll get some good news 🙏🏻
