I'm now running low on forage which has all been quarantined for a period of time in my airing cupboard before use as it is. I want to start picking more now it's spring but won't risk it (at ground level).

Sadly I'm not sure the risk is that much reduced at ground level. A line from FHB's article:

RHD and its variants are easily spread. The virus can survive in the digestive tract of animals that feed on carcasses of rabbits that have died. For example, faeces from crows, foxes and flying insects can infect rabbits

I don't think people realistically can avoid it I used to worry about forage but then someone pointed out greens / herbs from the supermarket could be exposed, as could hay)

I know. I'm clutching at straws even if they don't have a lot of substance to them. I really hope the rest of you get chance to vaccinate soon, it was a massive undertaking for me but I'm so lucky to have had the opportunity.

Yeah, for some reason we carry round the belief that anything shop bought hasn't been exposed to the atmosphere! It took a while for the reality of that to hit for me too. The hay bales from Laneshawbridge are from Ripon area too so probably in a RHDV2 hotspot!

I thought a lot of shop bought herbs etc were grown indoors in large greenhouses. Don't know how you could ever check though!

Oh, I didn't know our hay came from Ripon. I assume my bunnies have had lots of potential exposure, the decimated wildie population round here I suspect may be down to RHVD2?

We do also have paperwork in place to apply for a second Special Import Licence for a vaccine from a different European country. This was submitted to DEFRA several weeks ago and we are awaiting their response

I agree. It's why my Galens' Gardens order has been quarantined as well as anything I've dried myself (4 months).

I'm looking only at Hawthorn high up from my own garden. I've never seen any wildies. The hare population from a few years back has gone.

I always reject any leaves with bird poo on anyhow!

I've stopped foraging as well much to the upset of my rabbits! It simply isn't safe until we have vaccine.

Where I live there are no wild rabbits to be seen at all. We are surrounded by farmland and there used to be scores on view, so I expect a population of hundreds in various local warrens. There has been no sign of any dying from Myxi so it can only have been from VHD. The last time I saw a wildie around here was about 2 years ago, the closest I've seen one in the last year was about 10 miles away. I suppose that means that in my area any crisis is over as there isn't a wild population to carry any disease, but terribly sad for the rabbits that have been affected

I stopped foraging for a while but we had three episodes of gut issues (two stassis and one total emergency but when operated could not find an actual obstruction) in the time I stopped whereas usually we dont have any - so I have started again.

I don't really forage at this time of year anyway and we have wild rabbits in the garden so I only really ever pick from above ground sources - not least because the wildies eat everything tasty at ground level! Because we have them so close, I think the bigger risk to me is that it would just be all over the garden and moved around on their feet as well as on mine and other wildlife. The population crashed a couple of years ago with a severe myxo outbreak so there are far fewer than there were previously, but there are new babies around now so they're slowly recovering. Fingers crossed that DEFRA respond soon - thanks for your continued work on this RWAF.

I think the new one is aswell as the combi-vac, not instead of.

Rabbits will still needs Nobivac combi as week as one of the imported vaccines. The imported vaccines only protect against RVHD, not against Myxi. Nobivac and he other vaccine mustn't be given within2 weeks of each other, there would be too much strain on the immune system, likely to make both vaccines ineffective

I have contacted several Exotics Vet Surgeries/ Rabbit Savvy Vet Surgeries enquiring about the availability of the Cunivac. They all say the same thing, they have placed an order but the company can give no estimate as to when the vaccine will be available again

I was at my vets yesterday. They hadn't ordered any!!

The vet I prefer to see was going to make enquiries with the exotics specialist they refer to when needed. She called me this morning and they have now ordered some. I found out that it is William Lewis. His practice is about 12 miles away and he too has no supply and had ordered it weeks ago.

He also advised he is aware of 10 rabbits that have died from this new strain. He is in Braintree, Essex.

I am now even more worried.

Yeah my vets ordered in January but still don't know when they'll get it I'm taking alf for his normal vaccs shortly anyway, so hopefully it won't be too long before they get the new one in and he can have that too.

Dp you know where from at all?

My vet tried to get permission for either the French or the Spanish vaccine (they tried both) and so far no licence.

They have permission for the German but no vaccine available as run out.
