• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I notice a small bubble at the tip of my bun's ear

So near the tip of the triangle part of my bun's ear, I notice it forms a small bubble, or it can look at as a small swelling. There is no noticeable insect bite, but of course there is a some small amt. of short fur on the inside. Now, at this house, since they stay 100% indoor during the winter, there is no outside contact. However, I did see some very small insect this winter at the windows. These small insect is the size of a dot or 2 dot size, so they can't cause any sizeable insect bite. The bubble size is approx. a dime size. Her diet is excellent, no change. I have a few different cream that I can use. Manuka honey, or Flamazine

if it's not some insect bite, what else can cause a tiny bubble like that?

Update: I post the same photo at my facebook group, some guy from Japan says it's ear mites. Now, they stay indoor thru out the winter, if it's true, where do they come from?

I also check symptoms as well as photos on the internet, nothing matches

The ear is inflamed and possibly infected. Otitis Externa. Veterinary treatment is needed. The Rabbit might have scratched the ear and caused an abrasion with a toenail. Whatever, the condition needs to be assessed by a Vet as it will be painful and if it’s infected it will just get worse. If infection spreads to the middle ear it can mean big trouble.
