My 8 year old Faithy took unwell with breathing problems on Saturday. She was rushed to the vet where they done an X-Ray. It showed her lungs were full of fluid, and that she had bronchitis and possible pneumonia. After a day on oxygen she was sent home with diuretics, metacam and Baytril.
Her breathing has been difficult since although at times she remains alert. Her eating isn't great. Last night she went downhill and collapsed on her side when I was giving her meds. She managed to get up when I put her back outside.
I arranged a vet visit early today with the view of pts, but the vet, who she hadn't seen before, decided because she was bright and still moving around she didn't need pts. I was also told I shouldn't keep stressing her out taking her into the vet every couple of days, even though the original vet asked to see her these times.
I am so upset. Obviously I don't want to lose her but I don't want her to continue to struggle to breathe either. I don't have insurance for her so can't afford other tests. She is a very nervous/aggressive rabbit who hates being handled so meds twice a day isn't helping. I can't mix them in anything because she's not eating well.
I really don't know what to do with her. At times she is up and moving around. Most of the time she is lying around with her nostrils flaring and sometimes stretching her neck out. I've tried nebulising her too.
Sorry, just wanted to vent.
