• Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bunny might have consumed chocolate?!

So my rabbit might have eaten chocolate, I say might have because I didn’t see the chocolate, but it looked like his mouth was moving.

I had a kitkat Santa bar, I remember eating half putting it down and then eating the rest, but I left some crumbs, my rabbit got on the sofa and was sniffing around and it looked like he grabbed something and then hopped off the couch? I was worried he ate something (but I’m sure there was nothing there because I swear I ate it all)

It looked like he was licking the carpet, and I put it down to me being overly worried till I went to shake my blanket where I found Chocolate crumbs.. where my rabbit was.. but I swear I ate it all!! Unless that it was legitimately just a crumb he was sniffing for but couldn’t get to, I’m worried he ate something he shouldn’t have and I don’t know what to do?

I’ve done research and looked at other people’s story’s of their rabbit eating chocolate, if he ate any it was smaller then a square piece, but apparently it’s super toxic but I’ve also seen other people say it isn’t? I don’t know what is what

This happened to me many years ago, overnight my bunny got hold of some chocolate I'd carelessly left out. Luckily she was fine but I did contact the vet and from memory she did go in for observation for the day. Chocolate is toxic so if you're not sure how much your bunny ate it's best to contact your vet.
