  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Honeybun has an Ulcer/Abscess in her Eye! - U/Date

Just noticed it this afternoon. It doesn't seem to be bothering her but I'll take her to the Vets in the morning. The worry is, she is 10 now - would she be too old for a GA if they thought they could remove the eye?

If I were you, I wouldn't worry until you know exactly what it is, and what the treatment may be.

Have a good night's sleep so you're prepared to discuss with the vet the options.

Good luck tomorrow

The Vet gave Honey's eye a thorough check and it was very swollen and he felt there was a lot of pus behind it, making us think it was an abscess. They could have removed the eye which would have been a high risk operation on a 10 yr old and the abscess could have penetrated further into the skull making it impossible to remove all of it, so I opted to have her pts.

Her partner was trembling when I arrived back as they have been together 8.1/2 yrs and I was very worried for him. I gave him some food but he wouldn't eat it but later I saw him eating some hay then he had a few nibbles of his food.

I'm so sorry to hear that Honey has gone to the bridge. Binky free, dear one.
Sending comforting vibes and prayers to you and Honey's partner. xxxxxxxx
