Vibes for Danny Please

If he was done late they may want to keep him in overnight xx

I couldn't wait any longer and called again, this time I got put through to a vet. He has a lesion on his spine  They're not sure what it is, they might send it to a radiologist for a second opinion. The extra bloods should be back tomorrow so they're keeping them overnight. At this stage she thinks managing it with pain medication is the only option. Poor Danny

I knew it was something to do with his spine, but I thought it was arthritis. What is a spine lesion? I asked if it was a tumour but she didn't know. She said it was his thoracic vertebrae. I don't know what this means. Will it grow? Will he become paralysed? He must be in so much pain. I hope they give him good pain relief tonight.

This diagram shows where the thoracic spine is

The lesions may not be a tumour, there are lots of other possibilities such as intervertabral disc disease. I am sure the Vet will ensure that he has good analgesic cover xx

I'm so sorry to hear this Helen. I hope you'll get some clarity on exactly what it is, and what it means for Danny's future, very soon x

I'm sorry the news wasn't better. Sending vibes for Danny and I hope you soon find out what the exact problem is.

Sending you vibes and hoping you can get a diagnosis soon. A lesion as already said can be many things and doesn't necessarily mean cancer. x

Thanks guys, and thank you Jane for the diagram.

I still don't know what's going on. A nurse called at lunchtime to say the results aren't back yet. I just called and the results are back but the vet is operating now. I'm very impatient and I hate all this waiting! :(

Just spoken to the vet and the conclusion is, no idea! He's a very odd case. They're going to try to get a second opinion from FHB, but if she can't take the case it'll probably be the Royal **** they send his tests to.

There was a lot of info to take in, so I may have missed bits. He's anaemic with mild changes to white blood cells but he is regenerating blood cells. Liver is back to normal, kidney I think was slightly low. Slightly high thrombocyte count, but not significant. Something that showed signs of muscle breakdown or damage.

So she then did an ultrasound to see where the blood is going. No signs of bleeding at all. Took a urine sample, no sign of blood. She's collecting a stool sample now to test, but no obvious sign of blood.

Spookily she thinks the results point to some kind of auto immune inflammatory condition, but it's very rare in buns. Steroids would be the treatment in dogs, but not recommended in buns.

She said he's a very interesting case. Hopefully a specialist will be able to figure it out.

And spooky because I was wondering about auto immune inflammatory conditions, mostly because that's what I have personal experience of.

Helen, it seems to pose more questions than it answers .. I have experience of a rabbit who was diagnosed anaemic but the vet never explored where the blood might be going

I hope FHB or some other specialist will take on the case and give you some answers xx

Its horrible not knowing & waiting for feedback, time just stands still. I hope a specialist is able to shed light on whats going on and make Danny better

Oh bless little Danny. Hope FHB has seen something similar and can help with a treatment for him.

Sending lots more vibes x

Still no further forward with Danny. Got the results of the fecal test today, no blood so he can go back on Metacam. FHB says to recheck teeth?! The dental problems are secondary to his not moving! How would dental problems affect his movement?!

And "VHD2 can't be ruled out". But he's not "sick", he's bright and eating, he just won't move. No other rabbits are affected. I really don't think this has anything to do with VHD2.

And his neck wasn't even on the xray apparently. I'm not convinced FHB has been given the correct information. The weight loss and dental problems are secondary to the movement issue. I just despair.

Could you ask if you can book a consultation with her then you can spend some time discussing the aspects of it with her to see if it makes any sense?

I hope you can get some answers that make sense as this must be very distressing at the moment.

Can't see FHB but she's mentioned someone on maternity leave that I could see, my vet is going to try to get him booked in there. If they won't accept him she'll try Abbey House.

I don't think having another GA for another dental and repeat bloods is addressing the primary issue. I'm sure he will need another dental, as he's barely eaten any hay for a month. If all we can do is keep syringe feeding, keep giving him dentals every month and keep monitoring his bloods then it's not enough. He's in pain, he's unhappy, and it's because he doesn't want to move. I can't keep him alive like this, it's no life at all.

I'm sorry that you still don't have any answers, I can understand the despair. I really don't know what to suggest, I just didn't want to read and run :( I hope you can get him seen by this other vet soon.

Sending lots of vibes xx

I'm so sorry you're no further forward with Danny :( It's certainly a mystery.

It sounds like FHB isn't sure and without actually examining him, she probably can't get any further forward either?

She didn't want to examine him though, she wanted my vet to do another dental :? I just can't see how a dental problem could affect his movement.

No comment passed on the spinal lesion, so I guess she thinks it's too small to cause a problem. :?
