  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Star is off her food U/D Doing better.

I understand how worrying it is when they wont eat, we had a little wobble with Cookie a few days ago and it gets you so anxious and I know how hard it is to try and not show it in front of them.
Have you got any herbs? Mint, Basil, Parlsey or Dill? They may help tempt her to eat?

Thank you, yes it is worrying.

We've only got parsley and she didnt want any of that, and just tried another wet dandelion or two - no interest. She looks very tired - but is understandable given the time of day.

I am just thinking of what I said the other day - "if in doubt, take her to the vets" - OH has just rung out of hours vets so I think we are going to take her in. I just would rather that than for anything to happen or for her to be in pain.

Thanks for asking after Star.

We got her to the emergency vets at about 1.30am. The vet said there was no gas/bloat/blockage so it was the early onset of gut stasis. She could feel that she was in pain in her intestines. No dental problems.

Vet administered Metacam, Vetergesic, Metaclop and Zantac. She seemed really knowledgeable about rabbits which was reassuring.

When we got home we syringe fed Star about 6-7mls of Critical Care but she was stressed and not swallowing it down so we left it at that for her to settle down.

This morning she has eaten hay and parsley and is running around her run :) Neither her nor Twinkle are interested in their pellets but think its just that their routine has been disrupted.

Am so annoyed at myself about the whole grass issue :(

Off to vets with Kencs and Mues in a minute. I'm v. tired! But needs must.

I now know how worrying it is when buns don't eat, I'm pleased she is doing better and lots of vibes for her xxx

Sorry I missed this Helen. The first page immediately made me think spring grass i'm afraid, we've had a warm Jan so it shooted early. I'm pleased you took her to the OOH vet she needed pain relief urgently from your description so you did right thing totally.

Good luck at vets today xx (left handed typing so limited sorry!)

Thank you Liz and Vicky :) Star is doing a lot better, has been eating hay and more parsley today. Not sure how much of the pellets have been eaten by her and how many by Twinkle but she seems alert and interested :)

Though we have been out for the last couple of hours with taking Muesli and Kenco to the vets.

As suspected Kenco did have dental problems, but thankfully this has been sorted out with a conscious dental today and he has had some pain relief. He seemed really thankful bless him, and very bright and cheerful in himself afterwards - apparently the teeth had caused several ulcers in his mouth :( It would also account for why Fay had put weight on and he had lost a little.

She is also going to send Muesli's info over to an exotics specialist for an opinion on his kidney/urinary problems, so depending on what they say, we may be asking for a referral. Have to wait and see and also I am not sure if our insurance will pay out as the first time we took him to the vet was on Day 12 of the 14-day exclusion period :(

Still at least they are all happy in themselves. :D

Oh and I forgot to say that I am such a doofus as I left my handbag in the car overnight, so for about 12 hours overnight my handbag was just sitting there in the car - and there have been some car breakins in our street lately

So lucky that it was still there today - shows how tired I was

Oh no!! Only just seen this. Pleased to see a positive update will be thinking of her hope things stay positive for your beautiful girly
