Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Snoopy has an ear infection/ really bad update :(

Getting a scan locally sounds like a good plan. I hope it'll give you some helpful answers and an idea of what to do next. Sending lots more vibes for Snoopy.

Thanks for checking in on Snoopy, J&B.

His hay eating is a bit weird. He has bursts of eating normally but the problem is that they're too short and infrequent for my liking, although does seem to pick up a bit more at night. One time I'm actually grateful for my insomnia! So I'm still continuing with the syringe top ups.

He actually gave me an awful scare on Saturday. I was cleaning out the feeding syringe and saw that he had bitten off a large chunk of the tip and I couldn't find it! I frantically searched for it, even did the whole hoover and rummage through the bag trick. You can imagine my relief when I eventually found it in the sink. I had this awful sick feeling that he'd swallowed it and I kept thinking there was no way he'd survive the blockage surgery.

My local surgery has done the referral for the CT scan at Wanstead this morning so I'm hoping I'll hear from them soon.

Thank You for the update. I'm sorry he's up & down . I've had that fear ! rudey did actually eat the whole tip - all syringes had to have most of the end chopped off - it was lucky he was otherwise easy to syringe feed. I hope Fudgie is being supportive (& back to full health herself) & that you get your CT app soon

I'm sorry Snoopy's hay eating is still not great, and I'm sorry you had such an awful scare! When Sophie was younger she'd always chew chunks off syringes, too, and I'd always be afraid she'd swallow them, so I understand the worry! I'm really glad you found it in the sink and that he hadn't eaten it. I hope you'll hear about the CT scan soon and that it won't be too much of a wait.

Thanks both. I'm anxious to get this ct scan done soon so we can finally start Snoopy on the right treatment. It just feels like there's been an awful lot of faffing about going backwards and and forwards with referrals, consultations and trying to arrange scans. Plus everything is taking longer than usual. It's nobody's fault as they're overwhelmed with people wanting appointments and they're trying to squeeze us in as best they can. We're just getting the rough end of the combination of high demand, covid restrictions and vets leaving because of Brexit. I just really wish I'd had the foresight to get the scan done locally (as it was highly likely that was going to be the next course of action) before the consultation with the specialist as we'd probably be a lot further along by now.

Much as I want this scan done, I'm really nervous about what the outcome is going be.

I had a bunny who bit syringe tips off or almost off and understand your panic. I went so far as using my metal cake decorating tip/bag before vet said he could crack a tooth(better than blockage). I even wrapped duct tape around syringe tip to make it more difficult to chew through.

Sending vibes you will soon have answers and a treatment plan.

I'm sorry everything is taking so long when you of course just want to get the scan done as soon as possible. And it's so understandable that you're really nervous about the outcome. I'll be hoping for Snoopy and you that the outcome will be the most treatable possibility.

Snoopy is having his ct scan at the hospital tomorrow morning. The head vet is taking charge of it. As mentioned up thread, she has a special interest in rabbits, although I'm not sure if she can technically be called a specialist. In any case, I'm glad that he'll be seen by a rabbit savvy vet.

I'm really nervous about this. I'm convinced that the scan is going to show a few nasty surprises. That may well be due to the fact that Fudgie's scan for a suspected URTI revealed that she had kidney disease, so I'm almost programmed to expect a few stingers in the results.

Snoopy is doing ok in himself. He is eating more hay, which I'm really pleased about. Not as much as he should be but it's quite an improvement on how he was doing previously.

I can understand how worried you must be and I would feel the same :( Really hoping that nothing serious is found on the CT scan and sending vibes that all goes well.

Yes I can understand that feeling too, sending lots of vibes for Snoopy for tomorrow, and really hope that your fears are unfounded xxx

Hi, I do hope snoopy feels better soon & you get the ear infection sorted. Nothing worse than when your bunny is sore it’s so upsetting. I can’t give advice as I’m a new bunny owner but Bella has been at vets for things & it’s not nice at all xx

I can empathise with much of what you say. Really hope all goes well with the CT scan & no nasty surprises. Does fudgeyface go along for emotional support?

Thanks so much for the vibes everyone xx

I know you can't second guess what a scan is going to show and we'll just have to deal with whatever the results are.

Having said that, I'll be absolutely gutted if they find something untreatable. Particularly as he has been doing so well lately. His hay eating is definitely on an upward trajectory and his appetite in general has improved a lot. Consequently, I've reduced the syringe feeds to once per day. If he carries on the way he is I'll feel able to stop altogether. His poos are currently about two thirds the size of Fudgie's. That's a significant improvement given that, at their worst, they were like hamster droppings.

It is good he is doing well when he is getting the scan. Eating more hay and decent size poo is a promising update. I hope you get good news from his scan today.
