Ravvit Vet Search .............. UPDATED: #67

I got an email repy from Medivet
Hi Axxxx,
Thanks for the e-mail.*
The dental price for Rabbit dental is £296.76 which includes GA dental clip/rasp, sc fluids, antibiotics and analgesics and metoclop injection to*help guts mobility as normal and any post op checks.*
Vaccination price is £37.79 which includes Myxo + VHD both given 3 weeks apart.
Consultation fee is £28.09 but if animal comes for vaccination you don't get charged any consultation fee and is included in vaccination charges.
I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Regards,

Can anyone help me with a reply :/

"Dear....

Thanks very much for your email.

Best wishes,

"

Doesn't need more than that, they probably don't need your custom and to be honest (slightly harsh sorry) probably won't care. No need to question them, just don't give them your business!

I would email the Pets Practice, ask which VHD they give, if happy, take him for his jabs, and see from there.

Phoned the remaining vets, pets practice and animas are us.

Both ok but the animals r us prices are similar to medivet's prices.

I'm just going to go with Pet's Practice.

If I'm not happy with them.
I'm going to start going to the vets in Twickenham - even if it takes me an hour to get there or arrange a taxi or a relative to take me there which'll take 20 mins.

I asked another vet practice near me about dentals.
And they said £20 depending on what the bun needs.
They use the consult price for the bun. They clip the teeth in the consult.
What does clip mean? Can dentals happen that quickly ?

They also said they don't use GA because it's riskier than using it for dogs and cats .

They'll use it if the bun needs.

What do you feel about this?

Just to quickly say that Poppy has dentals & they do the burring whilst she is awake also do maybe that's what they mean!?

It's Medivet (very rabbit savvy), and the vet literally pop out the room with bunny for 5 mins, burrs the teeth and brings her back. It is perfect for my bunny, she's right as rain straight away & no meds etc needed.

Saying this she is rather chilled & easy to handle so it may not work for all buns, plus it costs consult which is £28 plus about £10 extra.

Thanks Janey for replying

Medi vet near me does the following:
Sedates bun, burrs and then uses pain relief and fluids.
This was quoted £300 approx.

The pet vaccination centre, 'clips' teeth. Clipping only works for the front teeth and can't work for the back spurry teeth.

So I don't know what they would do if they saw spurs on the back of Lucky's teeth.

Pet Vaccination Centre would charge the consult price of £20 for this.

I'll phone the vet today and ask her what she would do.
Yesterday I asked the vet nurse.
Maybe I'll get another reply.

Update

I phoned PVC,

They have two methods which they'd use

1) Trancing the bun, gagging the mouth open and then perform the dental with a combination of clippers and an electrical burrer.
2)Sedating bun, then gagging the mouth open then using a combination of clippers and an electrical burrer.

She also said If you're worried about me doing the dental then use the other vets you were using.
And £85 for a dental was cheap if the burring of the teeth, fluids, pain relief was included.

I said isn't trancing a bun wrong, she said it is but it only needs to be done once. And all the buns needing dentals have been fine after their dental.
And don't ever need to come back again because they're fed on the right diet.

Ravvit enough ? :?

Also  at £300 for a standard dental - that's outrageous! Mine does same, GA, fluids, pain relief, full burr and reshape for about £90, that seems to be about normal.

£300 is charged from Medivet - I know they're not serious, they've all consumed half of the animal GA.

And PVS charges the consultation price maybe a bit more [Consult price is £20] for dangerous dentals.

Sorry i have no specific advice re the different vets you are looking at as they are out of my area but wanted to say that i think it is great that you are putting so much effort into finding the right vet for you and your bunny :D

Thank you, you're comment means a lot
Some people probably think I'm going mad for no reason

I told my Dad that PVC charges a lot less than our previous vets, but perform the dental while the rabbit's awake. He said he's never going to pay over there if they're going to do something that big on Lucky as Lucky will feel pain. "How would you feel if they cut your teeth whilst you were awake!" He has feelings !

I also asked my Dad if we could go to Twickenham Veterinary Surgery even if it takes us an hour to go there and he agreed.
"As long as it's done properly I don't care about the money"

My consult at Harcourt Brown was £60.00 I won't go into detail about other costs, but I was always under the impression should the animal pass whilst having a procedure you don't pay for that procedure. Not the case. Either way it doesn't matter, Loli was worth every Penny and I'd spend it over and over if it meant she was still here.

My normal vet is around £24 for a consult, vaccinations are £21 each. Lola's dentals at an different vet in Manchester (an awesome vet) were around £175 excluding any meds. :)

Standard (non-referral) consultation at Harcourt-Browns is £24.90, the above must be the referral consultation charge.

I'm not sure where the idea comes from that if an animal passes whilst undergoing a procedure that there is no charge, as the vets still have expenses and need to make a living out of what they do. In the case of blockage in the gut (sadly both Lola and my Little Dot were lost to) it's a well established fact that there is only about a 50-50 survival rate so for the vets to undertake such a procedure knowing there is a 50% chance they will be doing it for free just isn't fair on them, even more so if there is an underlying condition that means the rabbit has less chance of surviving. Stacking the odds even more that the rabbit went to a referral practice therefore the procedure/need for it is specialist there must be higher odds of a poor outcome (otherwise the first vet would have undertaken it), I don't think many vets could work on a basis of not charging if the animal passes, especially if the prognosis at the outset is poor. Based on all this, my presumption would be that vets occasionally show discretion re the fee if the animal passes but I think it's very unlikely to be the norm.

Hope it works out at Twickenham, Whitehood, it's a practice well worth travelling to. Some of those dental prices are outragous:shock:

I wouldn't of have left the practice in Twickenham, but as he cannot drive no longer drive, I thought I'll look for a practice more closer to home.
At the end of searching I've settled on the practice in T.
So will be registering again this week.
