Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Penelope injured leg :(

See William said a week to ten days of restricted space, but let her hop.. Which Idk he said Clementines wouldn't be too bad, but she ended up not being allowed to hop for at least 2 months... I know its different but I'm worried it's going to be worse than he suggested.

I can keep them upstairs in the hutch, it's 6ft long, must be 2.5ft deep, and Idk how tall but they can stand up and have loads of room above them... But what about Apricot :( what would you do if it was you?

Could you see how Apricot copes if you plonk her outside for exercise time for a couple of hours a day - I think I'd try that. I know its a horrible thought keeping them restricted but I don't think 2 weeks would cause any harm . Hopefully the amount of hands on & recovery time will be a lot better than Clementines was. I know nothing is set in stone but William won't have plucked the 7-10 days from nowhere xx

Thanks both, yea it's just last time what he said wasn't what we ended up doing, the orthopaedic surgeon said different, so I'm just cautious I guess. Apricot would be fine with that, but Penelope is lost without her, she follows her everywhere, she gets very distressed when Apricot isn't there :( I guess one step at a time, I just hope they don't find anything more wrong with her :(

I am glad it’s something fixable poor girlie. Can I ask why bigger are buns are more prone to these things? I have never had a big bun. Sending lots of vibes for a smooth operation xxx

Yea odd isn't it, Idk. I asked if it was because she was overweight, William actually said she wasn't at all overweight tho, and didn't think it was that, so Idk! Thank you xxx

I reckon it might just be the bigger they are the harder they fall so to speak. Like kids fall easy but adults increasingly do their selves mischief . Don't know though

Sending lots more vibes and hugs. She’s in the best of hands. Had it In a gsd , he made a full recovery..

Lots of vibes for Penelope's xrays and immediate recovery, and from her ongoing problem :) I think big things fall harder as everyone's said, e.g. big dogs carry more weight than little ones simply because they're bigger, so things are under more stress so to speak.

Nothing more sinister found :) just gotta decide who we want to do the op, William is less than half the cost, than the orthopaedic surgeon, Idk which way to go really. Its not even the cost that's driving it, I trust William, he said he's done this lots, just not on a bun, and I know he wouldn't say he could do it if he couldn't. Idk, what to do tbh.

Are you insured? And, if so, would it cover the more expensive option?

Sending lots of vibes xxx
Nope no insurance, idm going for the more expensive option tho, its the same op it's just who performs it. I'm torn because I know and trust William, and he said the outcome would likely be the same.

Gosh Graciee - that's quite an injury that poor Penelope has got. She's not doing things by halfs is she?
On the plus side, your vet sounds absolutely wonderful picking that up and also stepping up to do it. I'm assuming you have insurance?
Getting Penelope put right is going to be the priority and you'll manage and cope and Penelope will have the best chance of recovery because of your quick intervention.
Operation technology is so advanced now that it is possible that the operation could be done by a form of kehole surgery whereas a few years back it would have been far more invasive and extensive so her recovery time should be reduced.
Sending loads and loads of vibes for her and will closely follow her adventure. xx

Is William a good surgeon? If so I'd go with him . He obv is rabbit / exotics vet so will understand all the GA & recovery foits to the 9th degree, I dunno how much working on a different species would affect things. If its rare in bunnies how many has the ortho specialist done ? That might be useful to know x
